Job Description
The Newcomer Program providesgrade level appropriate core content instruction with concentrated English Language Learning (ELL) support in a sheltered environment. Serving Limited English Proficiency students in grades 9-12 this program will be located at Schumaker Complex behind Parkside High School and will follow traditional high school hours.
Salary(Non negotiable)
Commensurate with education highly qualified status (as determined by Human Resources) and verified full time experience. Includes employee benefits package.
Paygrade 6 $20269 - $college credits or qualifying scores on the ParaproAssessment
Paygrade 7 $21288 - $27263 Bachelors degree or higher
Hours:
10 months 35 hours per week 182 days (1274 annual hours)
Contract Unit: This position is part of the non-supervisory support services bargaining unit.
FLSA: Non-exempt
Minimum Qualfications:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing using the English language when deemed necessary.
Excellent organizational and self-starter skills.
Responsibilities
Assist teacher or other professionals to achieve instructional objectives in a sheltered ESOL program.
Work with students in small groups on specific concepts/skills according to the students English Proficiency levels.
Assist with large group activities field trips and other special programs/activities for students.
Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce and modify material introduced by teacher.
Guide independent study and other work assigned by teacher.
Assist students with mobility needs assist with loading and unloading buses.
Report student problems to teacher and assist with student problems.
Assist with other needs that could include breakfast lunch snack cleanup lavatory clothing personal hygiene and wash-up routines.
Complete other duties as assigned at the discretion of the building principal.
