Senior Structural Design Engineer - Environment (Water)

What you will be doing:
As Senior Structural Design Engineer you will be an important member of the Engineering Design Team and will be required to work with the Principal Engineer(s) Design Team Design Manager(s) and Design Leads to deliver design to the highest quality to GT process and in compliance with the BMS and H&S Regulations. This is a technical role engaged directly on projects which requires competency in technical design delivery in the water and wastewater industry. The Senior Structural Design Engineer can have line management responsibility for design engineers of the same discipline plus non-discipline design engineers/others if required.
As well as providing direction and assisting with innovations you will be expected to contribute to the engineering governance of your discipline design activities ensuring that design integrates with the other discipline design production activities providing technical support to the supply chain procurement activities and supporting site activities as required. You will also be expected to support the Discipline Manager and Principal Engineer(s) for knowledge sharing and development of the discipline engineers including mentoring and support of early careers.
In this role you will:
Work as a senior structural design engineer within growing team helping to deliver structural design in water/wastewater related projects
Review schemes and provide initial input to the designs this will include producing reports calculations and initial drawings.
Undertake detail design in reinforced concrete and steelwork for below and above ground structures related to water non infra and infrastructure projects.
Provide detail design to modification of existing structural assets located within water/sewage treatment plants and other projects locations.
Mentor and providing technical support to junior engineers.
Produce designs to minimise carbon footprint.
Support management team with input to planning costings and programmes
Be able to support junior structural engineers and work with various disciplines including support to construction team.
Your work predominantly will be in water sector
There will be an opportunity to support temporary works team
Attend site visits carry out structural assessments of existing structures i.e. water retaining structures retaining walls various structural assets within water/wastewater treatment works and produce assessment reports.
Review 3rd parties structural calculations
Specific Requirements
Demonstrable experience of 7 years working in relevant discipline
Extensive knowledge of design in Reinforced Concrete Construction for water/ wastewater sector such retaining structures pumping stations reservoirs foundations but not limited to.
Knowledge and experience working to the current British Standards Eurocodes and specifically BS EN 1992: (Eurocode 2) Design of concrete structures.
Experience in the assessment of existing structures as well as new build designs.
Experience with software packages commonly used in structural design such as Structural Analysis Software; STAADPro (Design of RC Circular Tanks) or Strand7 (for FEA) TEKLA TEDDS or similar design softwares.
Strong communication skills organisational and collaboration skills.
Experience in providing structural assessments analysis and specifications.
Preferable experience working with various clients but not essential (e.g. Severn Trent Scottish Water Yorkshire Water United Utilities Thames Water Southern Water))
Produce/ check calculations and reports to support those designs
Other Requirements:
Proven track of having worked on a variety of structures projects for water sectors.
Knowledge and experience in structural design for below and above ground water retaining structures.
Preferred experience in structural engineering of non-infrastructure projects preferably across all stages of design through to construction.
Extensive knowledge of standard engineering practices techniques procedures and Structural principles.
Supervising work ensuring that it is carried out to the appropriate technical and quality standards and that it is managed to budget and programme.
Supporting structural engineering projects performing analyses and calculations as appropriate for water sector.
Experience of liaising with Client on technical matters to understand their needs and develop solutions to their problems
Attendance at design progress and site meetings as required
Awareness of NEC contracts
Competent with requirements of the companies Integrated Management System including Health & Safety Environmental and all other appropriate regulations
Computer literate and conversant with the MS Office suite
Strong written and oral communication and organisational skills and to produce reports in clear concise English
Proven ability to lead and work within a team environment with a dedicated approach to meet project deadlines
Keep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate identify innovation/best practice for consideration
Co-ordinate and liaise with suppliers specialist sub-contractors in-house functions and construction teams
Understanding in design activity schedules estimates
Proficient in working with multi- disciplinary teams
