Description

Part-time position: Non-exempt position 25 hours per week. Includes day evening and weekend hours.


Hourly Wage Rage: $18.67-$28.00 with a starting hourly wage of $18.67/hour

Objective:


Provides reference services readers advisory programming services and technology

assistance and training primarily to teen patrons.


Duties:

  • Provides consistent gracious and friendly service to internal and external customers.
  • Understands and enforces District policies and procedures while safeguarding intellectual freedom and patron privacy.
  • Performs all duties at the Teen Services Desk. Performs all duties at all other Adult & Teen Services public services desks as needed.
  • Monitors the use of the teen computer area. Provides assistance and instruction for technology especially technology provided by the library including software available on library computers mobile devices eResources and digital collections.
  • Develops plans and conducts programs for middle school and high school students in-person or virtually. Hires performers with guidance from the Teen Services Librarian.
  • Researches orders inventories and maintains program supplies for the Adult & Teen Services Department.
  • Prepares and submits required records purchase requests and reports in keeping with the policies and procedures of the library. Collects daily statistics and prepares monthly departmental statistical reports.
  • Coordinates work for and supervises student volunteers under the guidance of the Teen Services Librarian.
  • Creates and maintains teen book displays bibliographies flyers blogs and other print or online library promotional materials under the guidance of the Teen Services Librarian.
  • Assists in maintenance of adult & teen collections as assigned. Maintains familiarity with library collections and knowledge of all genres of young adult literature.
  • Participates in department and library meetings and serves on library wide committees for special projects strategic planning and new library initiatives. Serves as liaison for the library in programming initiatives with external agencies.
  • Serves as a notary public for the library.
  • Keeps work areas neat and orderly. Cleans computer hardware and vacuums the Vortex.
  • Keeps informed of current information and trends at the local library level.
  • Participates in professional development activities relating to areas of responsibility.
  • Assists patrons with searching the catalog for materials.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


Education: Requires expertise acquired through completion of a Library Technical Assistant (LTA)

certificate in an associate degree program or a two-year associate degree.


Experience:

At least one year of related experience in a comparable business school organization or

library preferred.

Office & Library:

  • Basic knowledge of productivity software and integrated library systems
  • Familiarity with current technology trends reference techniques and digital information retrieval
  • Ability to integrate technology into programming and public services
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize data to improve processes and procedures
  • Proficiency in using tablets and similar devices
  • Flexibility and adaptability to change
  • Broad familiarity with young adult literature and materials in various formats
  • Demonstrated ability to work and engage effectively with teens

Communication:

  • Effective verbal and written communication in English
  • Multilingual skills especially in Spanish are a plus
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff and patrons
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in difficult situations
  • Ability to empathize and connect with a diverse range of patrons

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those

required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Good speaking hearing and vision abilities
  • Ability to push carts with library materials weighing up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to push carts weighing up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 25 pounds frequently

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a typical library environment. This is a part-time position and requires some

weekend and evening hours.
