Gems Setra is looking to add a new Material Handler who possesses a positive demeanor and is detail orientated to join the team as a Material Handler. This position reports to a supervisor or Area Lead. MaterialHandler plays a crucial role in ensuring that materials are efficiently transported stored and distributed while minimizing waste and enhancing production flow. Lean manufacturing principles focus on improving efficiency reducing costs and continuously improving processes and a Material Handler in this setting must align with these goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Material Delivery and Flow:
- Ensure timely delivery of materials to production areas using Just-in-Time (JIT) inventory practices.
- Collaborate with production teams to ensure materials are available when needed reducing downtime and avoiding overproduction.
- Use Kanban or pull systems to manage material replenishment ensuring materials are only delivered when needed in the correct quantities.
- Inventory Management:
- Maintain optimal inventory levels avoiding both excess inventory and shortages by using Lean techniques like Kanban 5S or FIFO (First-In-First-Out) systems.
- Regularly monitor stock levels and alert management if restocking or adjustments are needed in alignment with Lean principles of inventory control.
- Participate in regular stock counts and cycle counts to maintain accurate inventory data.
- Efficient Material Handling:
- Transport materials and products safely between locations ensuring that the flow of materials is smooth and free from bottlenecks.
- Ensure materials are stored in a way that minimizes handling and maximizes efficiency utilizing 5S principles for clean organized and accessible storage areas.
- Reduce material waste and excess handling by maintaining optimal storage layouts and following Lean guidelines.
- Waste Reduction:
- Focus on minimizing material waste unnecessary motion and transportation. Follow Lean strategies to eliminate waste in the material handling process.
- Identify areas for improvement in material flow and contribute ideas for waste reduction during team meetings or continuous improvement sessions.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety guidelines ensuring that proper handling techniques are used to prevent accidents or injuries.
- Follow company protocols to ensure all materials are handled according to regulatory and safety standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits to identify potential hazards and work toward mitigating them.
- Support for Continuous Improvement:
- Actively participate in Lean improvement activities such as Kaizen events team problem-solving sessions and process reviews.
- Provide feedback on material flow and handling processes contributing to the identification of root causes of inefficiencies.
- Suggest and implement improvements to increase material flow efficiency reduce waste and enhance overall productivity.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with production and warehouse teams to anticipate material needs and resolve potential delays.
- Communicate effectively with other departments such as procurement or production to ensure timely material availability.
- Maintain clear communication with supervisors and colleagues regarding material shortages defects or delays in the supply chain.

- Organizational Skills: Ability to keep materials well-organized and easily accessible reducing the risk of wasted time or unnecessary movement.
Education & Experience Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Demonstrates basic math skills such as addition subtraction multiplication and division
- Most work cells require 95% or more of the shift.
- Ability to lift to 30 lbs. on occasion if required.

- While performing the duties of this job the employee may be subjected to moving mechanical parts electrical currents vibrations fumes odors dust gases chemicals oils extreme temperatures and workspace restrictions.
- The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
- Employees will be required to wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which may include eye hearing and respiratory protection protective smock steel toe shoes gloves hard hats or face shields. Contact lenses may not be allowed in some areas.
- The associate must also be willing and able to travel by all forms of transportation.
