Senior Maintenance Team Leader - Parks Division

***A 5% salary increase is scheduled for July 7 2025***


The City of Concord Public Works Department is recruiting for one Senior Maintenance Team Leader in the Parks Maintenance Division. This position will be assigned to a specialized shift; this shift is anticipated to be scheduled as follows:

Wednesday - 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM
Thursday - 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
Friday - 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
Saturday - 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
Sunday - 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM

This shift is subject to change; it may be adjusted based on operational need and seasonal requirements and may additionally rotate in and out of the shift typically assigned to Senior Maintenance Team Leaders in the Parks Maintenance Division.

What you will do in this role:
Act as a lead both individually and for a group to lead direct and/or respond to perform or delegate work to ensure services are delivered to the public in the areas such as:
  • Overseeing specialized work groups such as landscape irrigation tree and other areas of maintenance as they relate to parks medians urban forestry and open space.
  • Classify and prioritize service requests including responding to requests for service for park medians urban forestry and open space that may involve planning turf management playground replacements Integrated Pest Management litter removal garbage water leaks tree issues dumping mowing edging renovating weeding irrigating and other areas of the public.
  • Leading coordinating and participating in projects that involve upgrading medians parks and other landscaped areas.
  • Overseeing and assisting in logistics for events throughout the City.
  • Representing the City for publics requests.
  • Supervising and performing journey-level field and/or bench work in assigned maintenance area.
  • Communicating orally and in writing and maintaining neat and accurate records.

  • Has exceptional interpersonal skills and understands putting the public first.
  • Is a motivated self-starterand is able to search and find information from available resource systemsidentify and solve practical work problems without technical supervision.
  • Has great communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Is able to operate a PC to send emails adjust/program irrigation controllers and complete work-orders utilizing our maintenance management system Mobile 311.

SELECTION PROCESS

Examples of duties include but are not limited to

  1. Provides lead direction to no fewer than two subordinate personnel. Plans assigns and schedules work of subordinate staff. Monitors status of events; performs necessary coordination adjustments to schedules intervention and assignments.
  2. Performs in-service and basic training and evaluates training provided. As assigned provides input and recommendations regarding training design content and scheduling.
  3. Provides input and recommendations regarding performance. As assigned participates in performance evaluation interviews. As assigned provides input regarding performance evaluation criteria and methods.
  4. Assists in developing and monitoring the annual performance based budget for the assigned section. In the budget preparation provides detail for statistical historical data and recommends labor and materials requirements. May be assigned to track and report monthly the actual units of work expended and performance indicators.
  5. Orders or delegates ordering materials supplies and equipment for the assigned maintenance section including vendor review selection and price negotiation. Uses experience and knowledge of available products and sources to assure cost effective purchases. Maintains and completes required records and forms such as maintenance logs material requests and work orders.
  6. Promotes the Citys Mission to make Concord a city of the highest quality by providing responsive cost-effective and innovative government services; understands and subscribes to the Vision and Values Statement adopted by the City.
  7. Performs other duties as required.
  1. Assists in the development of annual programs and adjusts monthly schedules to accomplish those programs.
  2. Assists in the development of operational manuals containing policy and procedures maintenance standards organizational initiatives and safety standards for assigned sections; and performance evaluations.
  3. Reviews and provides input to landscape design projects including CIP projects and confer with the Engineering and Transportation Department to inspect landscaping improvements.
  4. Resolves customer service issues pertaining to division programs and services.
  5. Oversees the Landscape District Maintenance contractual work.
  6. Provides technical expertise to resolve landscape design problems to conform to existing field conditions.
  7. Coordinates park maintenance programs and activities to ensure the success of all special events and the overall enjoyment of all park facilities.
  8. Assists in the development of a comprehensive landscape median program to ensure the landscape designs are maintained to the highest standard of care.
  9. Leads directs and/or delegates and inspects to ensure the following annual programs are accomplished:
    a) Turf Maintenance: Including mowing edging fertilizing aerating
    overseeding renovating weeding and irrigating.

    b) Plant Material: Annual Bedding Plant Program shrub infill and replacement pruning (including the specialized care of roses).

    c) Irrigation: Primary responsibility for programming computerized base station system; assists in annual upgrade/enlargement of system as the 10-year CIP Landscape Median Program is realized.

Education/Experience
Education: Satisfactory completion of high school or the equivalent.

Experience:Dependent upon the specific assignment three to five years of related progressively responsible service including responsibility for lead direction of subordinate staff.

A Class C California Drivers License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment. Dependent upon specific assignment selected positions may require a Class A or B California Drivers License with Air Brakes endorsement.
