Job Description

Essex North Shore is seeking a Teaching Assistantfor Multilingual Learners to provideinstructional support to the Multilingual Learning Teachers. The Teacher Assistant for Multilingual Learnerswill support students who are in the early
stages of adapting to U.S. culture and have English language skills at the entering or beginning stages.

Candidates must demonstrate and/or possess:

  • Passion for working with a culturally diverse student population;
  • Knowledge of basic learning strategies; &
  • Knowledge of child growthand development.

Bilingual prefered.

Satisfactory SAFIS CORI and SORI required.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Teaching Assistant

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

The Teaching Assistant reports to the Humanities Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Knowledge of or willingness to learn best practices of vocational education..
  3. Experience working with high school aged students.
  4. Ability to use basic machinery and equipment.
  5. Knowledge of technology such as computers and related software.
  6. Strong communication and organizational skills.
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent-Director may find appropriate and in conformity with state and federal law.

DUTIES:

  1. Under supervision assists the Teacher in the administration of instruction in traditional and non traditional settings;
  2. Assist the Teacher in the preparation of lessons and other related learning materials;
  3. Integrates the basic principles of child development to complement learning goals;
  4. Redirects and adapts students who are observed having difficulties towards the appropriate classroom resources;
  5. Builds formidable and educationally appropriate relationships with students;
  6. Implements appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities;
  7. Performs other duties as required and assumes such other responsibilities as the Coordinator or their Designee may assign.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 30 pounds at times. The position may require in and out-of-district travel.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. This is a 10-month position 184 day position with hours to be set by the Coordinator or designee.
  2. Salary and fringe benefits are established by the Superintendent-Director in accordance with the policies established by the School Committee.
