Contract type: Permanent role
Location: Office Base is Salford or Glasgow. This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will balance office working with home working based on the needs of the role and their teams.

Main Responsibilities
As a Software Engineering Manager you will have responsibility for up to 50 staff leading a team of Software Engineering teams and directly line managing the Software Engineering Team Leaders and Principal Software Engineers. You will collaboratively guide change and improvement across your area whilst working closely with peers in Engineering and Architecture and with other disciplines such as Product Management.
This role is to be a Software Engineering Manager in the Web Enablement Group which is part of the Web area in Product Group. Web Enablement is a specialist area that provides common foundations and capabilities that enable other groups to create high-quality and consistent web experiences at scale with great efficiency. Areas of responsibility include a Web Design System common capabilities for capabilities such as analytics and experimentation and underlying platforms to test deploy and operate the BBCs primary website. We set the quality bar for very high it is highly performant accessible and well designed to handle millions of users in the UK and around the world. This role therefore requires someone both able to champion these values and provide the functionality to make them happen. The successful candidate will not only be an engineering manager for the team but a key leader in the wider web community ensuring we all collaborate on a user-centric and high quality web experience for our audiences.
Are you the right candidate

- Experience leading multiple software engineering teams ideally both those creating websites and those creating platform capabilities.
- A track record of recruiting and building strong teams that are diverse welcoming and inclusive and growing engineers and engineering leaders.
- Experience creating a strong community (of engineers and other disciplines) that encourages collaboration idea sharing and best practice.
- Experience fostering a positive energising environment where everyone feels like they belong can be their authentic selves and can bring the best version of themselves to work every day.
Delivery
- Managing multiple stakeholders in a complex matrix environment including UX&D Product Architecture Data and Delivery
- Working collaboratively with your reports peers and stakeholders to deliver work to ambitious time scales.
- Experience delivering successful technical solutions to meet specific business requirements in agreed timescales.
Technical
- Operational experience managing DevOps teams and ensuring high availability of products and services at scale.
- Technical design and service architecture experience particularly with large scale high volume applications.
- Experience developing platforms and environments that enable multiple teams to collaborate in parallel without compromise to efficiency or quality.
- Driving continuous improvement in the software engineering craft improving tooling practices and processes.
