Job Description
SUMMARY: The Plumber will perform all aspects of the installation maintenance inspection operation and repair of the plumbing systems throughout the Saint Louis Zoo. As an active member of Facilities Management this position will support the Zoos mission and advocate the Zoos core values and three keys.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following reflects Managements definition of essential functions for this position but does not restrict additional assigned tasks. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position.
Install maintain and repair pipes and fixtures associated with heating cooling water distribution and sanitation systems.
Conduct preventative maintenance and routine servicing including but not limited to the inspection testing and cleaning of drains sewer lines hot water heaters and boilers grease traps and interceptors backflows and pumps valve exercising and hydro jetting.
Repair and maintain all plumbing related appliances.
Utilize the CMMS work order system for work scheduling preventative maintenance programs and record keeping.
Read technical diagrams and blueprints.
Provide on-call weekend or nighttime event coverage if needed.
Ensure that proper safety guidelines and usage of PPE are followed at all times.
Know and understand the Zoo employee handbook and adhere to all stated disciplinary actions and personnel policies.
Work in close collaboration with all Zoo internal departments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in the technical fields involving the maintenance and repair of plumbing systems and equipment.
Plumbing certification or undergraduate degree required.
Possession or the ability to obtain OSHA 10/30-Hour Training certification.
Possession or the ability to obtain a Journeyman license in 1 year.

Versatility flexibility and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
Possession or the ability to obtain a Missouri Class E Drivers License is required for residents of Missouri.
All successful candidates for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check and a drug test. As this is a safety-sensitive role a negative drug test result is mandatory. The drug test screens for five substances including marijuana.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to push pull bend squat stoop climb stairs or ladders and twist many times a day.
Must be able to safely lift carry and load 50 pounds.
Physical capacity to endure exposure to inclement weather dust potentially dangerous and unpredictable animal species potentially dangerous machinery restraint devices and hazardous chemicals. Use of proper PPE may be required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position will work in both a shop environment and outside. Significant exposure to weather is possible.
