    FLSA STATUS: Exempt
    WORK SCHEDULE: 190

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    The Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools shall appoint the School Physical Therapist. The annual period of service shall be 190 days.

    PRIMARY FUNCTION:

    The school Physical Therapist develops implements and coordinates a physical therapy program within the schools; providing screening evaluations and intervention services to students.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

    • Adhere to professional ethical and legal standards of practice

    • Gather appropriate information from students parents guardians and other team members in regard to the students functional motor performance in the school setting

    • Select administer and interpret a variety of screening instruments and standardized measurement tools

    • Form partnerships with school staff and administration to promote an effective physical therapy plan of care for students in need

    • Provide physical therapy to students in accordance with the Georgia Physical Therapy Act

    • Examine and evaluate eligible students strengths and needs to establish their ability to participate in meaningful school activities and routines with or without assistance

    • Adapt environments to facilitate student access and participation in the educational program

    • Function as a consultant to other school personnel parents guardians and students to coordinate the delivery of physical therapy services

    • Participate in the IEP/504 process including collaboratively determining the need for physical therapy as a related service ( IDEA) or as a reasonable accommodation ( 504)

    • Communicates collaborates and cooperates with colleagues supervisors and students

    • Demonstrates appropriate consultative skills in parent teacher and student conferences

    • Utilizes assigned technology to maintain required documentation of services rendered

    • Refer students to other related service personnel and to healthcare providers as appropriate

    • Serve as a liaison among school medical personnel and medical equipment vendors

    • Excellent oral and written communication skill; organization and time management

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: degree in physical therapy from an accredited program; licensed to practice physical therapy in the State of Georgia


    EVALUATION: Performance of this job shall be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the boards policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
