General Statement:The English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher is responsible for student instruction specifically to enhance proficiency in reading writing and English language related subjects to inspire all students to learn to read/write at their age appropriate level and in the process motivate many of them to understand the value of language arts to future careers in order to meet our needs for a literate citizenry.
Responsibilities:
- Instructs reading writing listening and speaking organization coordination and integration at the of students in a classroom setting.
- Supports and implements School ELA curriculum into existing courses.
- Analyzes and shares data with colleagues at the team department and where necessary district level.
- Participates in trainings for teaching staff in the integration of ELA in the classroom.
- Follows standardized district level plans as disseminated by the Assistant Superintendent Principal and District ELA Coordinator to ensure implementation and best practice in classroom implementation.
- Engages in best practices in ELA education.
- Implement new ways of teaching; reorganize classes students and subjects; use new forms of formative interim and common assessments.
- Attend professional development training and other meetings regarding reading and writing initiatives.
- Keep the Principal informed of student performance successes issues and problems.
- Assist the district in strengthening and improving ELA curriculum assessment education programs and instruction where possible.
- Design update and maintain web pages on at least an annual basis to support learning and communication with students and parents/guardians.
- Learn and implement new curriculum/assessment/instructional programs as needed.
- Prepare reports records lists and other paperwork related to reporting student progress required by or appropriate to the schools administration.
- Works with peers and School Administrators to integrate ELA connections to curriculum assessment and instructional practices.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- A minimum of two (2) years experience in teaching preferred.
- Education:
- Bachelors degree in the appropriate area of study.
- Certification & Licensing:
- Must meet the current RI Department of Education requirements and or certifications.
- Physical Requirements:
- Walk climb stairs bend and lift up to 45lbs.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must provide a current national background check without disqualifying results at time of hire.
