Summary of Job Duties:

NEXUS is a newly restructured student support department within the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Arkansas. We provide proactive and community-centered support to uniquely identified students including first-generation low-income freshman commuter transfer and specific scholarship recipients. Our team is committed to advancing student retention belonging and academic achievement through direct coaching peer mentoring resource connection and strategic outreach.

This Coordinator serves as a key member of the NEXUS team overseeing the day-to-day operations of the phone outreach team and peer mentoring. This role ensures strategic operations provides leadership to student staff and supports broader retention outreach initiatives. The ideal candidate is proactive organized and service-oriented with strong leadership and communication skills. This position is designed to support the Student Support and Development branch of the department.

This role contributes directly to the mission of NEXUS by helping students navigate the university experience and thrive through intentional engagement and support.

Regular reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty as is the ability to create and maintain collegial harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution of higher education (all majors welcomed with relevant experience)

  • At least one year of experience working in higher education student services or a related field. This may include part-time volunteer and other relevant professional or leadership experiences

Applicable equivalencies may be considered for the above qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with academic retention academic advising financial aid scholarship cohorts mentoring or college access and completion programming

  • Experience working with first-generation low-income commuter or transfer student populations

  • Supervisory experience in any work setting

  • Experience with educational and/or training content creation

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of academic requirements related to postsecondary enrollment and completion

  • Superior interpersonal listening oral and written communication skills to effectively and professionally communicate using tact and diplomacy

  • Demonstrated self-management organizational and time management skills

  • Proficient skill documenting assessing and evaluating program-related information and outcomes

  • Skill in monitoring/assessing the performance of self other individuals or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action

  • Proficient skill using Microsoft Office Suite specifically MS Excel PowerBI MS Forms student databases design software and other related technology such as Starfish (UASuccess) Blackboard and Workday.

  • Ability and willingness to provide hands-on step-by-step guidance and support to students

  • Ability to think critically exercise mature judgment in identifying problems and generating solutions

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships build trust and work collaboratively with stakeholders

  • Ability to work minimal evenings and weekends based on office needs

  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes balance multiple competing priorities and perform highly detailed work

  • Ability to interact with a high degree of contact within the student and learning environment

  • Organizational and prioritization abilities in accomplishing tasks
