DescriptionThe Chemist organizes and executes project testing with minimal direction in support of Performance Coatings Group. Responsibilities will include organizing testing completing performance testing and generating reports on results. Must be able to coordinate multiple projects/timelines simultaneously. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining test equipment and supplies training of others on lab technique and film test protocols. This position reports to the Testing and Certification R&D group leader.

Responsibilities- Understands ISO 17025 (2017) practices and how they apply to the Testing & Certification group with regards to training documentation audits testing protocols and data reporting.
- Leads a moderately complex quality initiative on the team and helps to facilitate continuous improvement of the quality programs.
- Independently leads multiple projects of moderate to high complexity or rushed requests that require a high amount of testing accuracy and attention to detail and provides test data and reports to project submitters.
- Strong ability to communicate timelines and meet deadlines.
- Leads the development of new testing capabilities/ procedures that require a thorough understanding of equipment and documentation needs to obtain new test method accreditation.
- Leads requests for testing that do not yet have established procedures and creates the needed documentation to ensure that the lab is recording all required information per the test method or specification.
- Leads a moderately complex equipment process and ensures that instructions related to equipment operation troubleshooting and preventative maintenance are adequate and identifies opportunities for equipment process improvements.
- Leads troubleshooting and root cause investigations to identify risks and solve problems.
- Demonstrates in depth knowledge and background of equipment processes and test methods.
- Displays strong proactive communication skills to facilitate collaboration with internal customers (R&D chemists sales and marketing) and external vendors to address equipment issues.
- Mentors trains and acts a resource to support other team members as needed.
- Responds to moderately complex questions and concerns from internal parties related to testing processes and acts as a point of contact for certain business units.
- Help to support management in maintaining the overall budget and may provide recommendations for new equipment purchases and identify possible areas for cost savings.
- Complies with all department and company policies and performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsBASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
- Bachelors degree in a Science Technology Engineering or Math field.
- Knowledge of basic math skills.
- Computer knowledge for basic inputting communication and data analysis.
- Understanding of fundamental professional chemistry principles and practices.
- Operating a variety of laboratory equipment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 1-3 years of experience in a laboratory
