Job Description
Job Title : Senior Analytics Engineer Power BI
Location : Local to St Louis Park MN - Onsite
We are seeking a Senior Analytics Engineer to serve as the technical backbone of our Business Intelligence operations. This role demands deep expertise in Microsoft Power BI ecosystem administration and development combined with proven leadership in guiding technical teams and engaging directly with business stakeholders. Youll architect scalable BI solutions lead complex platform migrations and establish technical standards that drive organizational analytics excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Power BI Platform Mastery
Lead Power BI Service administration including workspace management gateway configuration and security implementation
Architect and develop complex Power BI solutions including advanced DAX calculations custom visuals and embedded analytics
Design and execute Power BI migration strategies from legacy systems and acquisitions ensuring data integrity and minimal business disruption
Optimize Power BI performance through data modeling best practices query optimization and capacity management
Implement and maintain Power BI governance frameworks including row-level security data lineage and compliance protocols
Data Platform Integration
Design and implement robust data pipelines connecting SQL Server and Snowflake to Power BI environments
Develop advanced SQL solutions for data transformation aggregation and performance optimization across multiple platforms
Establish data warehouse design patterns and dimensional modeling standards for optimal BI performance
Implement real-time and near-real-time analytics solutions using streaming services and Power BI
Team Technical Guidance
Provide technical mentorship and code review oversight for junior and mid-level analytics team members and self-service business users
Lead technical architecture reviews and establish development standards and best practices
Drive adoption of DevOps practices for BI development including version control automated testing and deployment pipelines
Conduct technical knowledge transfer sessions and create comprehensive documentation for complex solutions
Solution Architecture & Innovation
Lead proof-of-concept development for emerging BI technologies and evaluate their business value
Design scalable enterprise-grade analytics solutions that support thousands of concurrent users
Establish performance monitoring and alerting frameworks for all BI platforms and data sources
Drive technical innovation through evaluation of new Azure services Power BI features and third-party integrations
Stakeholder Partnership
Collaborate directly with business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into technical solutions
Lead technical discovery sessions and solution design workshops with business users and IT partners
Communicate technical concepts and constraints to non-technical audiences through clear documentation and presentations
Provide technical expertise during business case development and solution scoping initiatives
Solution Delivery Excellence
Lead end-to-end delivery of complex multi-platform analytics initiatives from requirements through production deployment
Establish quality assurance processes and testing frameworks for all BI deliverables
Implement change management processes for technical updates and platform migrations
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance solution performance user experience and operational efficiency
Ensure solutions meet enterprise security compliance and data governance requirements
Required Experience
Power BI Mastery: Expert-level experience in Power BI Service administration including workspace management gateway configuration security implementation and capacity optimization
Advanced Power BI Development: Proven track record developing complex Power BI solutions with advanced DAX custom visuals embedded analytics and performance optimization
Migration Leadership: Hands-on experience leading large-scale Power BI migrations from legacy or acquired platforms (Cognos SSRS & Power BI) with minimal business disruption
SQL Server Proficiency: Advanced SQL development skills with experience in database design stored procedures performance tuning and SSAS/SSIS/SSRS
Snowflake Experience: Practical experience with Snowflake data warehouse including SQL development performance optimization and Power BI integration
Technical Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading technical teams providing mentorship and establishing development standards and best practices
Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to work directly with business users gathering requirements and translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences
Project Leadership: Track record of leading complex multi-platform analytics projects from conception through production deployment
Documentation & Training: Experience creating technical documentation training materials and knowledge transfer programs
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with experience resolving complex technical issues across multiple platforms
Professional Background
Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems Engineering or related technical field
7 years of progressive experience in business intelligence data analytics or related technical roles
3 years of experience in technical leadership or senior individual contributor roles
Experience working in enterprise environments with complex data landscapes and governance requirements
Preferred Experience
Tableau Expertise: Administration and development experience with Tableau Server/Cloud and Tableau Desktop
Programming Proficiency: Python or R experience for advanced analytics and automation
Data Governance Tools: Experience with data catalog solutions lineage tracking and metadata management platforms
Cloud Migration Leadership: Experience leading cloud migration initiatives for analytics platforms
Performance Optimization: Specialized experience in query optimization data modeling and platform performance tuning
Security & Compliance: Experience implementing enterprise security frameworks data privacy controls and regulatory compliance
Professional Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate Azure Data Engineer Associate or similar relevant certifications
Agile Methodologies: Experience with Scrum Kanban or other agile development methodologies in analytics contexts
