Description

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSSrelated work Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada by Canadians.

The Intern Mechanical Engineering will be responsible for assisting the mechanical team in the successful completion of engineering tasks. This is a unique opportunity that will provide you with exposure to marine mechanical systems from the design and concept preparation phases. The incumbent will work closely with System Responsible Engineers on the Multi Purpose Vessel (MPV) and the Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV) supporting Basic Design Development tasks.

Note: Due to business needs this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue North Vancouver.

What youll do

You will provide day-to-day support while assisting and coordinating specific activities including:

  • Preparing design schematics and a 3D system model to support contract design requirements.
  • Support the development/maintenance of the vessels bill of materials
  • Support the vessels design acceptance
  • Support the development/update of design requirements
  • Support the production team as needed

What youll bring

  • Enrollment in a Marine Engineering Mechanical Engineering Integrated Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering degree program.
  • Passion for shipbuilding and be interested in implementing Mechanical Engineering concepts within a production environment. Students must be comfortable working in a heavy industrial setting.
  • Strong communication interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Proficiency working with CAD/CAM software suite including AutoCAD.
  • Strong technical skills including the ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings.
  • Excellent digital literacy including Excel/Word/ PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and manage their time effectively.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.

Start Date of Internship: Monday September 8th 2025.

End Date of Internship: Friday December 19th 2025.
