Job Description

Bengalla Mining Company (a member of New Hope Group)is a joint venture open cut coal mine with a strong track record of focus is on maintaining strong safety productivity and have a very collaborative team culture and a highly professional and rewarding work environment.

Bengalla is in Muswellbrook in the Hunter Valley supplies international coal markets with approximately 13 Mtpa and has consent to operate through to pride ourselves on the professionalism with which we pursue our goals and our strong links into our community.

The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an experienced Purchasing Officer to join the Procurement team at Bengalla Mining Company on a permanent full time basis. Working Monday to Friday and reporting to the Procurement and Supply Superintendent you will be responsible for:

  • Processing of direct charge stores and repair purchase requisitions into purchase orders
  • Evaluation of quotes
  • Ensure appropriate approvals are obtained
  • Quoting negotiating of Forward Purchase Agreements (FPAs)
  • Inventory control including usage reviews and cataloguing
  • Applying continuous improvement processes to Bengalla; identifying and implementing improvement changes
  • Assisting Bengalla staff with purchasing requirements e.g. quotes vendor management etc.
  • Demonstrating a strong commitment to the HSE vision and following HSEQ management system requirements as needed.

This position is a great prospect for a results-orientated individual with a strong customer service focus who enjoys working autonomously as well as within a supportive team based environment.

Qualifications and Experience
Possessing a vibrant can-do approach the successful candidate will have the following skills qualifications and experience:

  • Demonstrated work experience in a purchasing role or similar e.g. contracts inventory control (essential)
  • Previous experience working in the Mining and/or Heavy Industry (preferable)
  • Certificate IV in Procurement or other relevant qualification (desirable)
  • Confidence with well-honed negotiation skills
  • Strong stakeholder engagement ability
  • The ability to build effective working relationships with team members internal and external stakeholders suppliers and contractors
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to multitask whilst retaining strong attention to detail
  • Sound computer literacy including Microsoft Office especially Excel
  • Previous exposure to an Enterprise Resource Planning Software preferably PULSE
  • Proven safety record zero harm attitude and ability to comply with safety and environmental standards at all times.
