You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West Great South Upper wheatbelt and Peel Regions of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of Services including: GP Clinics Primary Health Care Counselling NDIS and community host various programs. SWAMS has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.
The SWAMS is dedicated to enhancing employment opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. About the role
Working within our Health Promotions team this position will be responsible for being the first point of contact for community members. They will ensure that SWAMS initiatives and information is disseminated into the community in a culturally sensitive and holistic way. With a focus on driving the Tackling Indigenous Smoking program this role will work towards reducing smoking rates among First Nations populations by preventing the uptake of smoking e-cigarettes and promoting smoking cessation.
The role will also be responsible for engaging with community at meetings forums and informal groups to bring ideas feedback and suggestions to the executive management team. This role will require someone who is able to and enjoys travelling for their role. This can include the Southwest Peel Wheatbelt and Great Southern Regions and can include multiple night trips. With a very high focus on community engagement this role will also include:
Community education and engagement (training social activities and events)
Assist in the development of smoke free policies in social settings (workplaces cars homes sporting and community events)
Assist in the development of mass media/social media campaigns (television radio social media)
Create implement and maintain referral and information pathways with external stakeholders.
Attend community meetings workshops and informal groups to create consistent SWAMS presence and communication within the community.
About you
You will have a passion for helping promote a healthy lifestyle and improving health outcomes in the Aboriginal community. Along with this you will have strong written and verbal communication skills an the ability to build rapport and trust with the community. It is ideal but not essential that you identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and have qualifications or experience in a relevant field.
