Description

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSSrelated work Seaspan Shipyards is leading the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada by Canadians.

As a Welding Engineer you will be responsible for development of welding procedures supporting technical department and production team conducting failure and root cause analysis on welding related issues etc. This internship will provide exposure to weld/material testing procedure in one of a kind metallurgical testing lab with a team of professional engineers in one of the largest shipbuilding programs of our time. During this time you will be reporting to the Manager Welding Engineering.

Note: Due to business needs this position is required to be fully on-site based at2 Pemberton Avenue North Vancouver.

What youll do

  • Assist in development of Welding Procedure Specification.
  • Support testing procedures in Metallurgical Laboratory.
  • Support Welding Quality Management System (WQMS) initiative
  • Assist in reviewing/organizing Welding Procedure Database.
  • Work on special project as assigned by Welding Engineering and Quality Manager or/and Senior Manager.

What youll bring

  • Enrollment in the 2nd or 3rd year of a Metallurgical/Materials Engineer or Welding Technologist degree program. Students must also have a strong curiosity about Project Management/Contracts.
  • Good knowledge of shipbuilding Welding processes and national/international welding codes rules and standards.
  • Innovative thinking skills with the tenacity to get to the source of truth
  • Outstanding integrity and honesty in all situations
  • Strong communication interpersonal and organization skills

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.

Start Date of Internship: Monday September 8th 2025.

End Date of Internship: Friday December 19th 2025 (4-Months).
