Overview
The CTVS (Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery) Surgeon Consultant plays a pivotal role in the healthcare organization providing specialized surgical care for patients with heart lung and vascular issues. This role is crucial for not only performing complex surgical procedures but also for ensuring the holistic management of patients before and after surgery. The consultant will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including cardiologists anesthesiologists and nursing staff to develop comprehensive care plans tailored to each patients needs. Additionally the consultant will be involved in the education and training of junior surgeons and medical staff contributing to the development of surgical protocols and best practices. Overall this position is integral to enhancing patient outcomes and the continuous improvement of surgical services within the institution.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex cardiothoracic and vascular surgical procedures
- Conduct pre-operative assessments of patients
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team for comprehensive patient care
- Develop and implement surgical care plans tailored to individual patient needs
- Monitor patients during and post-surgery to ensure optimal recovery
- Provide emergency surgical interventions as required
- Participate in case discussions and surgical rounds
- Educate and mentor junior surgical staff and medical students
- Contribute to ongoing research in the field of cardiothoracic surgery
- Stay updated with the latest surgical techniques and methodologies
- Ensure compliance with hospital protocols and standards of care
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives within the surgical department
- Maintain accurate documentation of surgical procedures and patient outcomes
- Foster effective communication with patients and their families regarding surgical risks and recovery
- Participate in administrative duties as required by the department
Required Qualifications
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
- Specialized training in Cardiothoracic Surgery (MCh or equivalent)
- Valid medical license to practice
- Completion of a residency program in Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Board certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant surgical experience
- Proficient in advanced surgical techniques and technologies
- Experience in teaching and mentoring surgical trainees
- Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology
- Ability to work under pressure and handle emergencies
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
- Research experience in cardiothoracic surgery is preferred
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities
