Purpose
This role helps to shape a culture across the portfolio where environmental risk management and compliance is valued as a lever to deliver operational excellence ultimately protecting and maximizing business value.
The Work
- Provide deep technical expertise in Environmental Risk Management and Environmental Engineering. The role scope includes energy GHG (Scope 1 and 2) emissions other environmental emissions (noise vibration dust non-mineral waste and surface and ground water quality as it relates to environmental risk and impact).
- Support the businesses to implement the associated technical standards and provide periodic review of and where necessary provide guidance to businesses on related Group Environment Standards.
- Provide thought leadership through external benchmarking and analysing global and regional trends to shape and influence step change in performance and to drive innovation.
- Provide technical input into business and sustainability strategy as it relates to Environment.
- Support comprehensive analysis of and provides insights into internal operational environmental trends incidents practices and developments and prioritise the critical environment focus areas at a portfolio-level for intervention by senior leadership.
Qualifications :
Qualifications
- An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honors degree or equivalent) in an environmental engineering environmental science or related technical discipline.
- A postgraduate qualification (Masters / Doctoral degree or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline OR a proven track record of extensive practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity.
- Work experience: Desirable Mining Oil & Energy
- At least 10 Years of experience in similar positions.
Technical Skills
- Demonstrated successful experience developing and implementing environmental risk management and assurance processes systems ALARP and best practices within a mining (or related) industry context.
- Understands the complex interdependencies between people process mining environment and system factors that create risk. Delivers a holistic method of identifying controlling and managing risks
- Translates strategies into practical actions with a commercial mindset to reduce environmental risk and impact and unlock value.
- Ability to express thinking / communicate in language accessible to broad audiences (Front-line up to Senior Management)
- Ability to effectively analyze large data sets to identify insights and recommend opportunities for performance improvement.
Social Process Skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally with business leadership and Group FRAs
- Presentation of complex data into more communicable information
- Effectively influence coach and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve required outcomes
- Ability to facilitate agreement and co-operation using a diplomatic and open approach
- Effective in working with diverse teams and sensitive to local social political and cultural realities
- Comfortably interact across all mediums i.e. face to face vs virtual interactions with team and stakeholders
- Uses networks in all stages of decision making to ensure decisions are not made in isolation though not to the extent that would be seen as abdicating responsibility
Other requirements
- Work internationally travel away from specified work locations often at short notice (Peru Brazil South Africa)
