- Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required
- Clearance Requirements: Tier 1 Background Investigation National Agency Check with Law and Credit Check and fingerprints. (Standard Form 85).
- Estimated Compensation: $54.50 68.00/hour
- Type of Employment: Full-Time (eight (8) hours per scheduled day).
- Period of Performance: 01 July 2025 30 June 2026 (with the option to extend).
- Travel: Travel not authorized
- Relationship: 1099 Independent Contractor.
Working Hours
The Optometrist will normally work Monday through Friday (except for federal holidays).The hours of performance will normally be between 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM and will include a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Must have a Doctor of Optometry degree from an educational program that is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) at the time the degree was obtained.
- Applicants must have received a passing score on the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) examinations and possess a current full and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a State the District of Columbia the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or a territory of the United States.
- Certification in Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross

Preferred qualifications and experience include:
- Experience in providing healthcare in a correctional setting.
- Additional professional education and certifications.
Attire
The contract employee is expected to wear professional clothing that is appropriate to the correctional environment while on duty; business attire or scrub-type uniforms are approved. No articles of clothing worn by the contract employee will be of a khaki tan khaki green tan dark green gray orange or camouflage color or pattern. Footwear will be closed-toe flat-bottom and completely cover the feet; fluid resistance and non-slip soles are preferred. Protective vests will be supplied by the institution.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Providing verification of credentials proof of malpractice insurance and medical indemnification insurance in the amount specified in the contract.
- Evaluation of patients as referred by the medical staff.
- Providing legible written reports on all patients evaluated to include but not limited to:
- Eye exams as requested
- Diagnosis of eye conditions
- Removal of foreign objects from the eye
- Physical findings
- Tonometry exams
- Recommendations for treatment and follow-up care
- Prescribing corrective lenses/frames as appropriate
- Fitting of eyeglasses and adjustment of frames
- Individualized adjustment of exam equipment as needed
