We are seeking a deeply experienced Atlassian System Engineer to lead the migration of user identities across our Jira (Data Center) Confluence and related tools environments. The successful candidate will have greater focus on Atlassian Suites backend identity architecture app links permission assignments and SAML/SCIM configurations rather than adjacent DevOps usage of these products alone.
You will work closely with IT leadership and domain separation stakeholders to ensure user identities service accounts and application ownerships are preserved during a transition between enterprise domains and identity providers (Okta/Entra ID) as our client divides their single instance of the Atlassian Suite into two one of which will be migrated to a new Domain and Identity Provider. Familiarity with Data Center editions of Atlassian Products in Linux and Kubernetes environments is a major plus.
Responsibilities/Required Experience:
- Perform detailed user identity migration within Jira (multiple instances) Confluence and Crowd and remap and troubleshoot user permissions ownership (e.g. issue reporters page authors) and group memberships across domain boundaries
- Re-establish and validate Application Links (AppLinks) between Jira and Confluence
- Maintain and confirm system integrity during domain migration with attention to internal user IDs vs external usernames
- Coordinate with SSO/IdP teams to reconfigure SAML and SCIM settings (primarily with Okta)
- Identify and recreate any service accounts integrations or bot identities
- Support plugin compatibility particularly Resolution SAML SSO and other enterprise-tier extensions
- Provide operational support and documentation to ensure a clean hand-off post-migration
Preferred Experience:
- Experience remapping Confluence page restrictions and Jira issue assignments
- Additional administration experience with other major DevOps tools including Gitlab and Artifactory (with JFrog XRay)
- Related System Administration experience
- Related migration experience
- Familiarity with Resolution SAML SSO plugin
- Prior involvement in M&A IT migrations domain splits or rebranding efforts
- Diligent documentation skills
