Description

The Oglethorpe University Core Program is seeking adjunct instructors to teach College Oglethorpes unique Core Mathematics and Human Nature class during the Fall 2025 semester. The lecture sections enroll no more than 20 students so the learning environment is ideal for one-on-one faculty-student interactions and for implementing innovative pedagogical strategies. Successful applicants must be interested in progressive student-centered models of mathematical instruction. Applicants will be expected to foster an inclusive learning environment by engaging in and promoting diverse teaching learning and mentoring communities. Our Core Mathematics course in particular is an exciting approach to general education mathematics that engages students with texts and involves more writing and discussion than a typical mathematics course. Students in Mathematics in Human nature strengthen their quantitative reasoning and writing on mathematical topics while learning about mathematical theory history of mathematics and real-world application or impacts of math.

Teaching assignments will be based on instructor experience areas of expertise and availability. Course sections meet 3 hours/week (either three 60-minute sessions or two 90-minute sessions). Ph.D. or M.S. in Mathematics or related field. Those who are ABD (all but dissertation) are also encouraged to apply.

Compensation:
Compensation will be determined based on the number of credit hours taught.

$3300/lecture course (4 credit hours)

Starting and Ending Dates:
New Faculty Orientation is August 18 and 19. The semester runs from August 25to December 5 with final exams in the following week. Final grades for the semester are due on Tuesday December 16.
