  • Job Title: Permanent Substitute - Science
    Reports to: Science Division Head / Substitute Coordinator
    Terms and Conditions: 10 months 183-day school year work calendar.
    Rate of Pay: $250/day
    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Summary:
    Permanent Substitute is a Substitute Teacher who is assigned to work different assignments based on coverage the term of the assignment Permanent Substitutes can expect to cover a variety of assignments in the Science Division and any other divisions based upon the District needs as determined by Substitute Coordinator and/or administrators. The Permanent Substitutes may also be required to perform other duties as assigned when no substitute teacher assignments are available.

    Qualifications:
    • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with high school endorsements in Physics and Chemistry additional endorsements a plus.
    • Experience working with high school students
    • Commitment to equity excellence academic and personal well-being of each student and high expectations for all students
    • Ability to commit to working every school day during the term of the assignment
    • Ability to work effectively in both general education and special education environments in any subject area
    • Candidates with training and experience in inquiry modeling or other constructivist methods for teaching Science are preferred for this position.

    Essential Duties: (Other duties may be assigned.)
    1. Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures (including classroom management techniques) for the school and classroom to which assigned.
    2. Deliver lesson plans as outlined in the substitute plans or as instructed by administrators.
    3. Ensure the safety and well-being of all students within the assigned classroom and appropriately respond to all emergency situations.
    4. Enrich or modify lessons curriculum materials and resources as needed to meet individual student needs and varying levels of progress.
    5. Conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate student progress. Administer standardized assessments as directed. Interpret student assessment data for application of instructional methods and monitoring of student progress.
    6. Review student progress via assessments maintain records of student work and develop intervention strategies to ensure student success and growth.
    7. Communicate verbally and in writing with parents and students regarding progress.
    8. Meet regularly and work collaboratively with other departmental teachers and support teachers to plan equitable instruction across all classrooms of the same subject.
    9. Meet regularly with support teachers teacher assistants and other support staff to discuss individual students modifications or adaptations ongoing learning issues interventions or problems. Work collaboratively to ensure individual students needs are met.
    10. Set clear expectations for class and manage classroom and school environment applying positive behavioral supports and interventions as needed.
    11. Collaborate with other staff in planning modifying enhancing and implementing curriculum and district objectives.
    12. Establish a safe atmosphere conducive to a positive learning environment. Inform students of safety concerns in all laboratory situations and assure their safety through supervision. Follow division protocols to assure safe utilization and disposal of all chemicals utilized in laboratory investigations.
    13. Act as a role model by encouraging appropriate behaviors that lead to social emotional and physical development
    14. Enforce and support school policies philosophies and objectives with students and parents.
    15. Participate in staff development and school improvement activities in order to maintain professional growth. Plan and incorporate best practices or new strategies.
    16. Participate in events outside of the regularly scheduled work day such as orientation open houses conferences and/or division meetings.
    17. Observe the professional day and maintain positive professional relations with colleagues.
    18. Hold high expectations for all students and demonstrate a deep belief that all students can learn and succeed.
    19. Communicate openly with student staff parents and other stakeholders regarding students achievement and progress in the classroom.

    Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to
    sit stand talk and hear for extended periods of time operate electronic equipment; and reach with hands and arms and will repeat actions with the same hand arm or finger motion have vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus (The ability to withstand long-term use of computer devices is required.) to have occasional lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling and dexterity actions within job standards.

    Work Environment:
    The noise level in the work environment is usually low. However on occasion the noise level will be moderate. Work is usually conducted indoors.

    Employee Performance Evaluation:
    Job performance evaluations are completed annually by the Division Head for Science (as deemed necessary).
