Title: Librarian II or Librarian III or Librarian IV (Health Sciences)

Other Conditions: First review of applications to begin on July 1 2025. To begin approximately August 2025 pending position clearance and availability of funds; renewable subject to performance and availability of funds.

Librarian II Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide general and specialized information services including reference and research consultation to students faculty medical residents health care providers and the general public in the health sciences. This includes front-line reference duties with regularly scheduled reference desk hours at a one-person Information Services Desk which involves circulation of materials assisting with computer printer and copier problems and other related tasks.
  2. Provide outreach and instructional services to students faculty and/or medical residents in group or classroom settings.
  3. Develop bibliographic instructional materials including but not limited to online instructional resources such as library guides and online tutorials.
  4. Provide online database and Internet searching assistance in the health sciences.
  5. Explore innovative ways to integrate existing and emerging technologies to deliver exceptional patron services to students clinical faculty and researchers.
  6. Perform collection management.
  7. Participate in committees and special projects as needed and collaborate with faculty and staff in the Library and other university units.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

Librarian III Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Same as Librarian II but with increasing responsibilities and a higher degree of complexity.
  2. Participate in scholarly activities with JABSOM learners.

Librarian IV Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Same as Librarian III but with increasing responsibilities and a higher degree of complexity.

Librarian II Minimum Qualifications

  1. Masters degree in Library Sciences or information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or equivalent education from an accredited college or university.
  2. Knowledge of information and research sources issues and trends in the health sciences.
  3. Ability to provide reference and information services and instruction in using library services and resources in a health sciences library.
  4. Ability to provide classroom or group instruction at the college or university level including via remote technology.
  5. Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of library users.
  6. Ability to work within a collegial framework collaborate effectively and respond flexibly to a complex academic organizations changing needs and priorities.
  7. Strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with students faculty and fellow staff members.
  8. Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.

Librarian III Minimum Qualifications

In addition to Librarian II minimum qualifications must meet the following:

  1. Three years of appropriate experience in a health sciences academic or research library.
  2. Twenty-four post-baccalaureate credits of academic study.

Librarian IV Minimum Qualifications

In addition to Librarian III minimum qualifications must meet the following:

  1. A second Masters degree in a specialized subject area.
  2. Seven years of appropriate experience or four years in the rank of Librarian III

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of information and research sources issues and trends in the health sciences.
  2. Experience providing reference services in a health sciences library setting.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of the academic research process and scholarly communication.
  4. Demonstrated experience in classroom or group teaching at the college or university level.
  5. Demonstrated understanding of teaching methods instructional design and current instructional technologies.
  6. Experience creating and using technologies building and maintaining web pages and utilizing bibliographic management software.
  7. Experience with grant writing.
  8. Demonstrated provision of literacy-relevant library instruction and/or service to disadvantaged populations.
  9. Demonstrated understanding of the principles and activities of collection development.
  10. Understanding of assessment methods used in higher education and libraries.
  11. Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of current technologies and software used in academic libraries.
  12. Experience working with an institutional repository conducting systematic reviews and knowledge of data management principles in support of faculty research and teaching.
  13. Record of professional contributions.
