Primary Purpose
The Instructional Coach is expected to present a positive proactive and professional approach to the schools in which he/she works. The Instructional Coach will help support a strong academic environment with a focus on improving the quality of teaching and student learning; provide coaching support to teachers which will elevate their instructional capacity to ensure a quality learning experience for students; provide instructional support to assist teachers with developing skills in the preparation of effective lesson planning presentation of content selection of appropriate and engaging resources and analysis of data to drive instruction and program implementation; provide observation and feedback that will support teacher performance. The coach will establish a rapport and maintain constructive interaction with teachers teams campus administrators and serve as a liaison between the school and the Curriculum & Instruction Department.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- Preferred Masters degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate and required endorsements
- Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned by accomplishing a Proficient rating in teacher evaluation system for two consecutive years
- Minimum 3 years full-time teaching experience
- Campus Leadership experience preferred (team leader grade level chair department chair etc.)
Special Knowledge Skills
- Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
- Experience evaluating instruction programs and teaching effectiveness
- Experience interpreting data
- Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong experience creating and presenting professional development at the campus and/or district level and training adult learners
- Knowledgeable of state curriculum standards Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) STAAR
Experience
- Minimum 3 years full time teaching
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Professional Learning
- Support the District Instructional Design and District initiatives in order to ensure curriculum implementation is aligned to the districts education plan and meets federal state and local guidelines
- Deliver District professional learning for teachers administrators and other community stakeholders
- Deliver Campus Professional Learning based on campus need and District Implementations (Trainer of Trainer Model)
- Provide ongoing professional learning support regarding adopted instructional materials resources supplies and equipment
- Keep abreast of technical legislative and professional learning trends including local state and national assessment policies and instructional practices affecting student learning
- Attend and implement ALL District Instructional Coaching Professional Learning
Campus Instructional Support
- Establish a process for collaborative Instructional Planning in order to identify activities resources and instructional methods that have the greatest impact on student skill acquisition
- Serve as a daily resource for all educators in the school
- Coach and mentor in Academics and Behavior (Focus: Reading & Math)
- Co-Teaching and Modeling Classroom Instruction and best practice strategies
- Collaborate with campus administration and teachers during Professional Learning Communities and Student Success Team Meetings
- Coordinate and support the collaborative work with District content coordinators through Professional Learning Communities
District and Campus Aligned Program Implementation
- Provide assistance and support to school leadership and campuses ensuring research based programs are implemented with fidelity and effective for our student populations through on-going program monitoring
- Disseminate the information to appropriate district personnel and make recommendations for program adjustments
District/Campus Data Analysis
- Assist campus leadership in collection and analysis all of instructional data guiding quality instruction differentiated instruction program implementation and student identification for intervention
- Develop a deep level of understanding of the breakdown of STAAR distinctions/letter grade and how to improve those scores
- Assist campus leadership in analysis and targeted development of campus improvement plan
- Support campus leadership to ensure implementation of campus plans by providing frequent monitoring and data reports for ongoing campus decisions
- Provide weekly District reports to the department of Curriculum and Instruction
Professional Growth and Other
- Model behavior that is professional ethical and responsible
- Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrators that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position
