DescriptionWe have an exceptional opportunity for a Quality Engineer to join our team in the Plainville CT facility. This individual would have responsibility for the internal and external quality of their assigned mini-factory(s). You will organize and execute on audit and compliance activities to ensure that our customer base receives the highest level of product quality. You willwork with a team of professionals utilizing a Continuous Improvement/Lean Manufacturing mindset to meet or exceed customer and corporate quality expectations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide Quality leadership to ensure we meet customer and Gems expectations by driving continuous improvement in key quality metrics.
- Utilize practical problem-solving techniques to lead team in root cause analysis and resolution of complex quality issues.
- Utilize Ralliant Business System (RBS) tools to make process improvements.
- Maintain and update procedures processes and documentation.
- Generate Engineering Change requests when finding drawing and BOM errors for corrections.
- Participate in material review board (MRB) reviews.
- Initiate and complete product non-conformance reports (FAR CAR 8D) documentation for supplier defects. Maintain regular communication with supplier regarding quality expectations and swift resolution of issues and complaints.
- Manage containment actions for supplier issues including sorting rework and inspection.
- Track analyze and prepare countermeasures for factory quality issues such as rework and scrap.
- Plan and direct activities concerned with development application and maintenance of quality standards for manufacturing processes material and products.
- Utilize and maintain team PFMEA and Control Plan documentation. Lead team in RPN reduction actions.
- Support team for new product launches in the development of APQP documents (FMEAs Control Plans PPAPs).
- Perform internal audits of product and processes.
- Prepare and calculate daily and monthly KPI metrics for team analysis and action.
- Lead validation and risk reduction efforts for new products and processes.
- Facilitate customer and/or supplier audits and visits with team. Lead corrective actions as required from audits.
- Maintain ISO and customer regulatory requirements within team.
QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION REQUIRED
- Bachelor of Science degree from four-year college or university required; engineering degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Excellent academic record (GPA: 3.0 minimum)
- 1-3 years relevant experience in manufacturing environment; other engineering experience and/or internships will be considered
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience leading projects.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as blue prints regulations and quality system related procedure manuals and standards.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as statistical process control design of experiments design for manufacturing and six sigma problem solving methods.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Experience with fabrication processes like welding brazing and machining preferred.
- Experience with automotive style quality expectations preferred.
- ISO 9001 and/or 13485 Lead Auditor certification
TRAVEL REQUIRED
- Ability to travel domestically (<5%) to customer or supplier sites.
