We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the Selkirk Elementary School team. SES acknowledges and respects and are grateful for the opportunity to work learn and play within the traditional territoriesof the Kwanlin Dn First Nation and the Taan Kwchn Council. Selkirk Elementary School is a Kindergarten to Grade 7 neighbourhood school aiming to foster a welcoming safe and inclusive educational environment; one where each student is supported to meet their full potential. This position provides an opportunity to work as a Perm 1.0 FTE First Nations Language Teacher teaching Southern Tutchone - at SES for 2025/2026 School year. Our goal is to have healthy vibrant Southern Tutchone language program in our school working alongside a team that includes a YFNED advocate and a Yukon First Nations Arts and Culture teacher.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Completion of Yukon Native Language Centre certificate/diploma program or equivalent.
- Demonstrated language proficiency (read write and speak) to deliver the Southern Tutchone culture program at the elementary school level.
- Demonstrated and on-going commitment to improve language proficiency.
- Extensive knowledge and awareness of Yukon First Nations Kwanlin Dn First Nations Taan Kwchn Council culture traditional practices values and beliefs as well as a good understanding of the past and current issues in education heritage and languages with a view to past the present and the future.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications skills and knowledge but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:
- Strong interest and ability to teach the Southern Tutchone
- Strong classroom management skills;
- Ability to adapt and modify curriculum to address students needs and gifts to ensure that all students experience success in this program;
- Ability to work as a team member and a willingness and enthusiasm to participate in all staff meetings school wide functions and initiatives participating in Yukon First Nations Language Teacher professional development;
- Developing collaborative relationships with language professionals at Kwanlin Dn First Nation Taan Kwchn Council (and other Yukon First Nations) and Yukon Native Language Centre.
- Ability to connect and collaborate with school based staff parents and/or caregivers;
- Willingness to actively promote Southern Tutchone and culture within school programming and environment.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
