Job Description

Title: Safety Assistant Manager III

Description:

The Assistant Program Safety Manager III works with contractors client inspection the Project Management Team and others to ensure assigned projects are implementing e ective safety programs and meeting the requirements of the contract documents with regards to safety and security requirements. The Assistant Program Safety Manager III may be assigned to assist the Program Safety Manager in managing the Safety Team and the Safety Program as directed by the Program Safety Manager.

Essential Job Duties

Ability to:

  • Directly supervises Project Safety Managers (PSMs)
  • Applies supervisory principles and techniques in building and maintaining an e ective workforce Monitors coordinates and controls the activities of the PSMs
  • Ensures consistency in the application of the CSPR and other safety & security regulations and
  • requirements throughout the program
  • Evaluates workloads and assignments to make necessary adjustments as needed and in consultation with
  • the Program Safety Manager Reviews weekly safety reports Reviews entries to the incident log
  • Walks projects with PSMs on a regular recurring basis Reviews observations and THA reviews made by PSMs Reviews project monthly metric reports with PSMs
  • Provides PSM evaluations on a regular and recurring basis
  • Assigned as member and or co-chair to the Airport Development Group Construction Safety Advisory Council
  • Work with PSMs Contractor Safety Team client Inspection Team Project Team and others to ensure assigned projects are implementing e ective safety programs.
  • May be assigned projects as the Project Safety Manager.
  • Meet with client inspection on a regular and recurring basis to ensure consistency in application of the CSPR.
  • Review written Safety Plans and verify results of safety performance and compliance in the eld on an ongoing basis to evaluate the e ectiveness of the program.
  • Ensure PSMs are assisting the Project/Construction Manager to verify that contractors comply with written documentation requirements including weekly toolbox meetings new employee orientation daily safety inspection reports any accident/incident and related investigation reports provision of competent or authorized persons documentation including training records and Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs)
  • Attend Project Progress and Project Safety Committee meetings as directed by the Program Safety Manager to monitor the ongoing safety e ort of the Construction Manager and contractor
  • Attend and participate in the Monthly All-Hands Safety Meeting to discuss general program safety concerns and successes as well as present updates and information on safety regulations.

Hardware/Software Knowledge:

  • E ectively use Microsoft O ce Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro software.
  • Large-scale construction management software such as Prolog VEO Procore PMWeb and other computer
  • software and applications as needed.
  • Create PowerPoint presentations.

Education/Training

  • High school diploma (or equivalent).
  • The Assistant Safety Manager III must at a minimum have an active Board of Certi ed Safety Professionals (BCSP) Associate Safety Professional (ASP) a CSP a Certi ed Industrial Hygienist.

Professional Experience Level/Other Quali cations:

  • Five years of experience providing safety oversight on vertical tunnel or heavy civil construction type projects.
  • Supervisory experience of other safety professionals
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing responsibilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Bi-lingual a plus)
  • Solid people skills with professional demeanor
  • Demonstrated ability to e ectively communicate safety policies and practices
  • Must have analytical reasoning and problem-solving capabilities
  • Must be able to write reports based on safety observations incorporate photos and distribute
  • Balanced approach to technical business and people aspects of business

Element-Speci c Requirements:

  • May assume other duties as required/needed
  • May be required to work past regular work shift and to come in on a regular day o and during regular o
  • hours.
  • May be required to start a regular shift at any time of day or night
  • May be required to start a regular work week any day of the week
  • Will be required to conduct Cal OSHA training to client sta and others-Cal OSHA authorized instructors
  • within 6 months of hire.
  • May be required to provide CPR/1st Aid Training

Key Performance Indicators

  • Project walks with PSMs inspection and others per week
  • Quality of PSM Weekly Safety Reports Observations submittal reviews and or feedback provided
  • Engagement (monitor and feedback) with sta -PSMs and inspection.
  • Coaching and training of sta -PSMs and inspection.
  • Continuing education/training completed
  • Timeliness in reviewing PSM reports
  • Engagement with project team
    • Regular and recurring communication
    • E ectively addressing safety concerns
    • Escalating concerns as necessary

Wage Requirement

  • Starting Salary range for this job is $145000- $197052.00. The starting salary will be commensurate with skill education experience and working environment.
