General Summary
Responds to EMS calls and performs a variety of functions related to the care and treatment of patients suffering from urgent and emergent disease and/or injury states in accordance with appropriate rules regulations and protocols. according to PA DOH EMS Act and scope of practice.
ResponsibilitiesDuties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Responds to EMS calls observes safety policies and operates an emergency vehicle with due regard for others.
- Prepares hangs monitors and administers I.V. fluids.
- Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members.
- Prepares patients for scheduled procedures and assists in patient assessment.
- Responds to emergency calls as a single Advanced Life Support Provider
Common Expectations:
- Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
- Demonstrates a commitment to patient visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and error proof systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
- Maintains established policies and procedures objectives quality assessment safety environmental and infection control standards.
- Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
- Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
QualificationsQualifications
Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma or GED Required
Work Experience:
- 1 year In busy 911 system. Required
Licenses:
- Certified Paramedic Upon Hire Required or
- Certified Pre-Hospital Registered Nurse Upon Hire Required and
- Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required and
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support Upon Hire Required and
- Ped Adv Life Support Upon Hire Required
Drivers License Statement:
Must possess a valid drivers license in the current state of residence. Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.
Courses and Training:
- Medical Command Authorization Upon Hire Required and
- Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) Upon Hire Required and
- National Incident Management System (NIMS)- Hazardous Materials Awareness Upon Hire Required and
- Emergency Medical Services Vehicle Operator (EMSVO) Upon Hire Required
