Job Description

Assignment Information and Qualifications

  • Full Time with Benefits
  • 35-40 Hours/Week (Monday - Friday when instruction is in session)
  • Starting wage is based on the current Midland Federation of Paraprofessionals Master Bargaining Agreement and 2025-2026 Wage Schedule - $15.50/Hour

Skill Requirements and Abilities

  • Experience using technology applications such as Google Calendar Email Sheets Slides Docs and/or data entry software
  • Sorting and categorizing skills needed to organize materials
  • Ability to provide positive guidance to students in a manner that communicates dignity and respect
  • Must be a reader who is willing to help students with book selection
  • Must be a library user who is familiar with locating resources in the library
  • Ability to work professionally with staff students parents and other providers
  • Dependable and reliable attendance
  • CPR/First Aid training preferred

Essential Functions

The paraprofessional will be charged with all day-to-day media center tasks as well as the organizing of volunteer help. Training will be available but it is important that the skill sets and aptitudes for the paraprofessionals be in place before they take the position.

The job is not limited to any or all of the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Staff the circulation desk to check collections materials in and out
  • Collaborate with teachers to schedule classroom visits to the media center and maintain the media center schedule
  • Advise students on book selection
  • Collaborate with teachers principals IB/PYP Coordinators Literacy Specialists to propose book selections for the collection
  • The Media Center Paraprofessionals may be assigned to District project teams or be asked to assist with coverage outside of their home building
  • Put together a proposed book order list based on the collection needs considering students interests grade-level appropriateness reading levels curricular alignment and professional reviews including notes in the proposed orders
  • Initiate the proposed book order approval process and reconcile the packing list to orders and actual books received
  • Manage the circulation and catalog databases
  • Catalog and process materials and put them on the shelves
  • Repair books as needed
  • Do an inventory of books at the end of the year
  • Maintain media center sub plans
  • Work with the Instructional Technology & Media Curriculum Specialist to prepare reports for collection maintenance
  • Assist the Instructional Technology & Media Curriculum Specialist in the maintenance of the collection
  • Help to develop and maintain Makerspace areas and activities that align with curricular goals and objectives and promote literacy and reading
  • Promote reading and literacy by creating and maintaining interesting displays activities and announcements to encourage reading. (Ex: Read aloud activities in classrooms or in the media center)
  • Assist staff and students with the use of media center technology
  • Train staff and students on how to use the library database and its interactive features and access to ebooks
  • Supervise and train volunteer workers to process shelve and repair books. Also train volunteers to use the circulation system if appropriate
