Job Description

Summary: The Dean of Students is a key member of the school team responsible for fostering a safe supportive and inclusive environment where every child feels known valued and respected. This role focuses on guiding young students in their social-emotional development promoting positive behavior and working collaboratively with staff and families to ensure all students are successful and supported.Job Description:Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of elementary student development including social emotional and behavioral characteristics as well as individual the design and execution of our PBIS frameworks that reinforces positive choices and aligns with district and state regulations while supporting restorative student support strategies seamlessly with academic goals and school improvement research maintain and apply knowledge of internal and external student support strong trusting relationships with students through consistent warm and respectful interactions; serve as a safe and reliable adult that students seek and promote school-wide expectations for respectful and responsible behavior including actively partnering with teachers and school staff to support classroom management address student concerns and align behavior expectations collaboration with the leadership team and mental health team will support teachers to establish clear behavior routines in classrooms hallways and shared exceptional time management and prioritize tasks in alignment with the schools mission and fostering a safe positive school the student support team responds promptly and thoughtfully to behavior referrals following school protocols and oversees the implementation of the schools discipline policies and procedures including investigations suspensions and behavior interventions for both in school and on the school collaboration with leadership and mental health team supports the development and implementation of individualized support and behavior intervention plans using positive reinforcement and restorative regularly with families in culturally responsive ways; maintain proactive and respectful partnerships that enhance trust and referral data is able to facilitate monthly student well being meetings that support the team to analyze behavioral data identify trends adjust strategies and make informed decisions on how to address areas of concern. Engage in school-wide events and community-building efforts; contribute to the overall culture and spirit of the in and lead professional development focused on behavior management equity and inclusion and share strategies with staff to build collective and evaluate the student support team to ensure disciplinary protocols are followed restorative practice are utilized and appropriate next steps are taken to support each student individually. Supervise and evaluates lunch recess and hallway monitors as well as developing and monitoring recess schedules for studentsDemonstrates comprehensive knowledge of federal state and local education laws and policies related to student discipline including due process and suspension protocols ensuring equitable and legally compliant practices in all student conduct matters. Ensures all disciplinary actions including suspensions align with applicable legal standards and district policy while promoting restorative practices and safeguarding student rights.Requirements:Bachelors Degree strongly required. Masters degree of five to seven years experience teaching or working with students. Previous supervisory experience interpersonal and communication skills written and verbal with different audiences including students parents/guardians and staff. Value of diversity and demonstration of cultural competence and sensitivity; experience in supporting diverse needs and working with diverse populations. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with parents and the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students parents school personnel and outside agencies associated with the confidentiality of records and information about students and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal flexible and resourceful problem solver; customer-service orientation. Detail-oriented and organized; can build and maintain systems that can grow with the school. Strong team player and experience working collaboratively. Bilingual Spanish Haitian-Creole or Cape Verdean Creole highly desirable.
