You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe University of Iowa Health Care Department of Emergency Medicine Transport Services is seeking a part-time (90%) Staff Nurse for the NeoPeds Transport program. The NeoPeds Transport program works in collaboration with AirCare to provide high level compassionate emergency and critical care services to referring hospitals by rotor wing and ground ambulance transfer. The NeoPeds team maintains a highly experienced medical staff incorporating the latest technology in aviation medical equipment pharmacology and continuing education. Our helicopters and specialty transport ground ambulances rapidly transport critically ill neonates and pediatric patients using AirCare and our MobileCare ground Transport Vehicles. Additionally the NeoPeds Staff Nurse will provide leadership to members of the nursing team in order to maintain patient care standards.
Responds to neonatal and pediatric patient requests up to age 8.99 excluding trauma or burn via air or ground transport.
Participates in physical assessment of patient and initiates/continues care per AirCare protocol/Medical Control; ongoing assessment and troubleshooting; communicate patient status history and treatment en route and upon arrival.
Monitors and manages airway and ventilation.
Administers medications including oral rectal sublingual nasal topical otic ophthalmic endotracheal inhalation enteral parenteral and intraosseous routes.
Responsible for oxygen therapy and monitoring cardiac monitoring cardioversion defibrillation and transthoracic pacing.
Responsible for peripheral intravenous (IV) intraosseous (IO) and Umbilical Venous Catheter (UVC) insertions maintenance and monitoring maintaining medicated IVs.
Performs venous blood samples urine samples assist clinician in tube thoracostomy (manage and monitor the chest tube and thoracic draining system; monitoring internal pacemakers; monitor and access arterial lines; monitor and access central venous lines including hemodynamic monitoring.
Demonstrates and practices competency and proficiency in advanced life support measures including oral intubation RSI intraosseous needle thoracostomy UVC need cricothyroidotomy.
Checks all supplies equipment and medications at the beginning of each shift and restocks as needed.
Practices and maintains a safe working environment at all times. Consistently incorporates and practices an attitude of safety with regards to patient crew and self in accordance with FAA regulations and AirCare/NeoPeds Protocols.
Communicates any pertinent changes in patient condition or disposition and report unusual incidents.
Performs related and routine clerical tasks pursuant to performing the aforementioned duties.

Education Requirement:
An Associates Degree in Nursing a Diploma in Nursing a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP) MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Masters Degree in Nursing (MSN MA) is required.
Experience Requirement:
Minimum of three (3) years RN neonatal ICU level III nursery or PICU experience or three (3) years RN pediatric emergency nursing within the last six months is required.
Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
General computer skills/competency
Certification/Licensure Requirement:
Current license to practice nursing in the state of Iowa is required by the date of hire.
Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Must obtain an applicable specialty certification within 2 years of hire.
Desired Qualifications:
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly preferred.
If Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is not yet obtained active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
Neonatal Pediatric Transport experience is desired.
