Job Description

Mercy Flights is accepting applications for a Full-TimeHelicopter Pilot (Pilot in Command - PIC)

Mercy Flights is seeking a highly skilled and safety-driven Helicopter Pilot (Pilot in Command - PIC) to join our dynamic air medical team. In this critical role you will lead the safe execution of helicopter operations in support of our mission to save and enhance lives across the region.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safe operation of assigned aircraft under all conditions.
  • Conduct pre-flight planning in-flight navigation and post-flight checks using FAA-compliant checklists.
  • Maintain aircraft readiness including fueling and oxygen system servicing.
  • Operate in accordance with FAR Part 135 the General Operations Manual and other regulatory guidance.
  • Serve as a leader in aircrew resource management and crew coordination.
  • Communicate effectively with crew patients families and dispatch.
  • Maintain complete timely and accurate documentation.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Commercial Pilot Certificate with helicopter and instrument rating
  • Flight Hours:
    • Total Time: 1500 hours
    • PIC (Helicopter): 1000 hours
    • Turbine Time: 500 hours
    • Night Aided/Unaided: 100 hours
  • FAA First or Second Class Medical Certificate
  • Meets 14 CFR 135.243 PIC Requirements
  • Valid drivers license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Total Time: 2000 hours
  • 135 on-demand and/or air ambulance experience
  • NVG experience and single-pilot time (500 hours)
  • ATP Certificate (preferred)
  • Garmin G1000 or similar advanced cockpit experience

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift/move up to 125 lbs.
  • Work in varied environmental conditions (heat cold vibration noise).
  • Shift work includes days nights weekends and holidays.
  • Occasional off-site training and overnight travel required.

Additional Competencies:

  • Demonstrates excellent judgment under pressure.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Must pass pre-employment/annual pilot physical exams and training.
  • No major aircraft incidents in past 5 years (exceptions reviewed).
  • Meets DOT substance abuse policy.
