TITLE: Procedures Nurse
LOCATION:Special Services
REPORTS TO: Executive Director Special Services and Federal Programs
DEPARTMENT:Health Services/Special Services
Hours / Work Times
6 Hours Per Day (times to be determined)
190 Days Per Year (180 student days/10 Holidays)
This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after 06/10/25.
This position is expected to begin August 26 2025

Salary Placement: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the classification salary range. However employees who have verified prior years of service of similar occupational experience may receive experience credit towards salary step placement.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Procedures Nurse is delegated by school nurses and is responsible for performing clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) diabetic care for students with disabilities as well as administering tube feedings or suctioning when necessary. The Procedures Nurse also performs other health related activities as requested by the Registered Nurses. The Procedures Nurse will assist in care delivery and educating students about their medical needs. The Procedures Nurse will travel to several sites each day.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Must be able to communicate effectively with students parents staff and medical personnel both orally and in writing.
- Perform medical procedures as required by the health care plan of the district R.N. and doctors orders.
- Administer medications and tube feedings.
- Perform health related activities as assigned.
- Accurately establish and maintain student health record for procedures and health plans.
- Maintain professional license and adhere to best practice standards.
- Travel from location to location to assist students with the above health issues.
- Perform emergency care if necessary for students on case load.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining a learning environment as specified by health goals and outcomes.
- Implement behavioral management strategies using techniques that have been suggested in order to address problematic student behaviors impeding timely procedures.
- Handle body fluids as required by best practice standard precautions.
- Lift and/or position students as necessary.
- Attend various training sessions as necessary so as to maintain an up-to-date understanding of school policies procedures and laws.
- Perform first aid/CPR when necessary.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT NECESSARY:
Sterile and Clean Catheters feeding tubes and all other tools and equipment needed to perform the essential functions as listed above.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Must possess a valid drivers license.
- Must possess current Washington State LPN license or RN license.
- Must meet at least current Washington State requirements for HIV/Aids education for health care providers.
- Demonstrated ability in performing catheterization tube feedings and suctioning.
- Knowledge of diabetic care including insulin pumps carb counts etc.
- Pediatrics experience desirable.
- Must be able to work independently as well as with a team.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Must possess current First Aid/CPR certification or be able to acquire within 45 days of employment.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with students parents staff and medical personnel.
- Must be able to travel from location to location in order to accomplish tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.
