Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Maintain repair and install commercial kitchen appliances and equipment. Identify energy saving measures and preventative maintenance schedules for existing kitchen equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Certification:

  1. High School diploma or GED
  2. Valid Texas drivers license and insurable by school district insurance company under the 10 point system
  3. EPA Refrigerant Certification

Experience:

  1. Minimum five (5) years experience in kitchen commercial appliance repairs preventative maintenance programs refrigeration/HVAC service repair

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Conduct technical diagnostics and perform specialized repairs on a wide variety of commercial/industrial food service equipment and appliances including but not limited to walk-in-coolers and freezers reach-in-coolers and freezers heated holding cabinets steamers convection ovens dishwashers booster heaters warmers exhaust hoods and fans serving lines coffee makers food waste disposers gas ovens and grills gas fryers microwave ovens mixers cutters slicers ice machines gas-fired tilt skillets bearings motors heat exchangers boilers air conditioning and heating systems chillers clothes washers and dryers.
  1. Install and maintain sinks drains water supply lines faucets valves traps disposals water heaters wash basins sewer pipes water filters plumbing related to fountain drink systems and other related devices and equipment.
  1. Wire and connect motors compressors temperature controls electronic components such as circuit boards igniters digital controls alarms and fixtures according to wiring schematics.
  1. Analyze and interpret blueprints diagrams schematics and written reference material.
  1. Ensure compliance with applicable laws regarding refrigerant handling recycling and disposal and maintain required Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) documentation and records to meet federal requirements.
  1. Maintain preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for all equipment including changing of filters and cleaning condenser and evaporator coils.
  1. Manage and maintain inventory and determine stock levels of kitchen chemicals. Order track record and maintain inventory parts for commercial kitchen appliances and commercial refrigeration equipment.
  1. Receive and complete work orders. Responsible for coordination and prioritizing repair tasks to respond in a timely manner and provide timely repairs and reduced downtime.
  1. Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates. Commission new kitchens and equipment installations. Manage equipment warranties.
  1. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
  1. Maintain inventory of district-owned tools equipment and materials. Recommend replacement of damaged appliances and equipment.
  1. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
  1. Work with cafeteria managers and supervisor to complete projects.
  1. Detect needed repairs on equipment following established inspection procedures.
  1. Respond to emergencies in buildings during scheduled hours as well as after hours. Respond to emergency calls for nutrition services and HVAC/refrigeration emergencies.
  1. Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
  1. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  1. Ensure that equipment is in safe operating conditions.
  1. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting climbing etc.
  1. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  1. Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct.
  1. Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance.
  1. Work in harmony with supervisory faculty and peer personnel.
  1. Use professional information discreetly and judiciously.
  1. Support and follow administrative and board policy.
  1. Represent the school system to the community in a positive professional way.
  1. Maintain a sincere friendly attitude toward patrons.
  1. Perform other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

Digital testing meters amp probe digital thermostats digital scale refrigerant leak detector nanometer refrigerant manifold gauges vacuum pump refrigerant recovery equipment hand tools power tools oxygen/acetylene torch MIG welder stacker forklift pallet jack light truck/van.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent standing stooping bending kneeling pushing and pulling. (Please see attached form)

Terms of Employment:

Work year established by the board; salary according to current schedule.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually.
