Job Description

Job Title: Construction Equipment Operator (Lead) CDL Required Residential Construction


Objective:

SC Swiderski is seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Construction Equipment Operator to join our residential construction team. This field-based role is responsible for leading excavation crews operating heavy equipment and performing critical tasks such as GPS-guided digging trenching and backfilling foundations. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership hands-on expertise and an understanding of Trimble GPS and residential sitework operations. Key Responsibilities (100% Breakdown):

Equipment Operation & Site Excavation (40%)

  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators bulldozers skid steers backhoes and dump trucks
  • Perform residential foundation digs footings trenching and backfilling
  • Utilize Trimble GPS technology to ensure precision in excavation
  • Load and unload materials and equipment on trailers safely
  • Maintain daily equipment inspection logs and follow safe operating procedures
  • Ensure all equipment is used and maintained in accordance with manufacturer and company guidelines

Crew Leadership & Site Coordination (25%)

  • Lead excavation crew with clear communication and direction
  • Promote positive morale and a productive team-oriented work environment
  • Coordinate closely with Excavation Manager to maintain project schedules
  • Delegate tasks ensure workflow efficiency and train new crew members
  • Provide regular updates on job progress and potential delays

Site Safety Cleanliness & Compliance (20%)

  • Enforce safety protocols and site cleanliness standards
  • Monitor and maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Identify and report hazards equipment issues or site problems
  • Ensure all crew members follow SC Swiderskis safety policies
  • Assist with snow removal and other seasonal tasks as needed

Documentation & Equipment Maintenance (15%)

  • Complete and submit required jobsite paperwork and reports
  • Provide feedback on equipment performance and recommend upgrades or repairs
  • Track fuel usage maintenance needs and equipment status
  • Ensure tools and materials are secured and stored safely after use
Requirements

Education & Experience Requirements

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid drivers license with reliable transportation
  • Current CDL (Class A or B)
  • 3 years experience operating heavy equipment: excavators bulldozers skid steers loaders etc.
  • Proficient with Trimble GPS setup and operation
  • Ability to dig and backfill foundations for single-family and multifamily homes
  • Strong knowledge of excavation techniques and residential site prep
  • Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and site plans
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools (basic reporting)
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently and lead a crew effectively
  • Flexibility to travel between job sites and work extended hours as needed


Preferred:

  • OSHA 30 certification or ability to obtain within 180 days
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Associates degree in construction management civil engineering or related field
  • Knowledge of preventative equipment maintenance


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions year-round
  • Able to lift push pull or carry 75100 lbs
  • Capable of working in trenches confined spaces and uneven terrain
  • Frequent bending climbing kneeling and standing for extended periods

Work Schedule & Travel

  • Full-time: MondayFriday 4050 hours per week (with occasional extended hours)
  • In-state travel required; regular movement between job sites
  • Overnight stays may be necessary based on project needs
