Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient inclusive resilient and sustainable agrifood systems for better production better nutrition a better environment and a better life leaving no one behind.

The Partnerships and UN Collaboration Division (PSU) is FAOs hub to ensure rights-based and sustainable development for all leaving no one behind. PSU builds transformative partnerships and proactively engages with key stakeholders including family farmers Indigenous Peoples parliamentarians academia research institutions UN organizations and civil society. PSU drives a people-centred approach through technical support capacity development policy advice and inclusive dialogue. All of this serves importantly to enhance countries capacity to end hunger malnutrition and poverty and achieve more inclusive and sustainable agrifood systems with and for the people.
The Family Farming Engagement Parliamentarian Networks and Communication for Development Unit (PSUF) oversees the work with communication for development platforms parliamentary alliances family farmers and with their organizations manages the Family Farming Knowledge Platform and supports the implementation of the United Nations Decade for Family Farming 2019-2028.


Reporting Lines

The Incumbent will work under general guidance of the Head of the Family Farming Engagement Parliamentarian Networks and Communication for Development Unit (PSUF).


Technical Focus

Establish strengthen and foster partnerships with state and non-state actors (NSAs) in particular with family farmers organizations
and parliamentary institutions and support the implementation of the United Nations Decade of Family Farming 2019-2028 and of the Global Parliamentary Pact against Hunger and Malnutrition.


Tasks and responsibilities


PSU Partnerships Consultant (Family Farming and Parliamentary institutions) A Level

Coordinate the promotion identification development and monitoring of strategic partnerships and engagement with state and non-state actors (NSAs) in particular with family farmers organizations and parliamentary institutions among others under FAOs new Strategic Framework 2022-2031;
Provide guidance and support to staff at Headquarters (HQ) and in Decentralized Offices (DOs) on effective engagement with family farmers their organizations and with parliamentary institutions;
Provide guidance and support to staff at Headquarters (HQ) and in Decentralized Offices (DOs) in relation to adapted interventions for the support at national regional and global level of family farming in the framework of the implementation of the UN Decade of Family Farming and of parliamentary institutions and other related initiatives;
Conduct the monitoring and review of ongoing partnership and collaboration activities with family farmers organizations and/or parliamentary networks and their outcomes for reporting through various channels;
Develop and implement advocacy initiatives in relation to the contribution of family farming to sustainable agrifood systems;
Collect document and analyse best practices and innovations in public policies supporting family farming in order to share the knowledge among HQ technical units decentralized offices and with the general public;
Develop technical materials and carry out capacity development activities (online and offline) in relation to technical and policy areas relevant for family farming and parliamentary institutions;
Oversee the structuring and conducting policy dialogues trainings and seminars on inclusive integrated and innovative public policy processes for the support of family farming;
Facilitate multi-actor and inter-regional exchanges and collaborates with other UN agencies to promote the sharing of knowledge and policy solutions for family farming.


PSU Partnerships Consultant (Family Farming and Parliamentary institutions) B Level

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING


Minimum Requirements

Advanced university degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in international relations political and social sciences economics agricultural sciences or any other discipline relevant to the work of the Organization; Consultants with bachelors degree need two additional years of relevant professional experience;
One (C level) or five (B level) or ten (A level) years of relevant professional experience in developing partnerships policies and programs with NSAs..
Working knowledge (level C) of English;

Extensive knowledge of food systems food security and nutrition sustainable development parliamentary systems and family farming;
Experience in organizing meetings seminars and capacity development activities;


Selection Criteria

Work experience with other UN entities or relevant stakeholders particularly at the country level is considered an asset
Limited knowledge of a second FAO language (French or Spanish) is an asset for consultants ;
