Job Description
The City of Winklers Public Works department maintains our streets sidewalks walking paths and trees. They work hard to make Winkler an efficient and pleasant place to get around. This team makes a vital contribution to our citys quality of life!
What Youll Do
Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor the Public Works Operator serves the public by helping to maintain city infrastructure such as roads sidewalks boulevards drainage and more. They do this by operating light and heavy equipment power tools and hand tools.
Job Duties include:
- Operate all heavy equipment and trucks with proficiency.
- Operate Bobcat tractors sweeper and other light equipment and complete minor maintenance.
- Drive trucks (sand spreader truck plow etc.).
- Use hand tools and power tools for various tasks.
- Perform and facilitate projects such as sidewalk construction street repairs crack sealing tree planting tree pruning landscaping mowing installing culverts etc.
- Perform in-house manufacturing projects.
- Make repairs and service equipment and facilities.
- Operate the Household and Hazardous Waste & Eco Centre as scheduled.
- Follow all safe work procedures.
- Keep supervisor informed and up to date on all tasks and projects.
- Report required equipment and facility maintenance to supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Youll Need
Minimum Requirements:
- Suitable combination of education and/or several years of related experience.
- Class 3 with air drivers licence is required.
- May be required to obtain Pesticide Applicator Licence.
- Basic First Aid CPR WHIMIS and TDG are required.
- Grade XII education is an asset.
- Have or be willing to obtain training in Basic First Aid and CPR WHMIS Respirator Training and Fit Test Lock Out Tag Out Aerial Lift Fall Protection and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
- Must be a team player.
- Experience in operation and maintenance of heavy and light equipment and trucks.
- Basic welding carpentry concrete low voltage electrical skills are required.
- Clear written and oral communications skills are required.
- Physically capable of performing work tasks.
- Knowledge of public infrastructure.
- Must be safety conscious in all matters related to public works staff and the public.
Job Details
- Full-time (40 hrs/week) permanent position.
- Full benefits package that includes an employer matched pension plan dental vision extended health travel coverage and more.
- Pay Range is $21.84 to $28.76 per hour depending on experience.
- Will be required to work outside of regular hours in evenings on weekends and on holidays to respond to emergencies and weather events.
- Some weekend shifts are required to operate the Household and Hazardous Waste & Eco Centre.
- Indoor and outdoor work year-round in inclement weather.
- Work requires the use of PPE.
- Hazards associated with working near mechanical equipment using hand tools and power tools operating vehicles working near traffic working in all weather conditions working at heights and working with hazardous materials.
