Job Description

Position: Psychiatrist (Institutional Setting)

Location: Leavenworth Kansas USA (On-site correctional facility environment)
Employment Type: Full-time

About the Role

We are seeking a board-certified Psychiatrist to lead and deliver comprehensive mental health services within a secure institutional environment. This role requires both clinical expertise and administrative leadership ensuring high standards of psychiatric care for residents while maintaining operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct psychiatric care including DSM-based diagnosis and psychotropic medication management
  • Supervise and mentor facility-based mental health staff
  • Participate in treatment planning progress evaluations and civil commitment proceedings
  • Support crisis interventions and ensure continuity of care
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and contribute to mental health audits and reporting
  • Ensure proper documentation and compliance with institutional and legal standards
  • Participate in on-call coverage and emergency interventions as needed

Required Qualifications

Medical degree with psychiatric specialization from an accredited institution
Active unrestricted psychiatrist license in the relevant U.S. state or eligibility for licensing in Illinois
Minimum 5 years of clinical experience including at least 2 years in a similar administrative or institutional setting
Strong command of DSM diagnostic criteria psychopharmacology and therapeutic interventions
Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments including exposure to challenging behavioral situations
Strong interpersonal documentation and organizational skills
Valid drivers license

Preferred Experience

  • Background in correctional health inpatient psychiatry or forensic mental health
  • Experience with ISO audits quality assurance or regulatory reporting in clinical settings
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary team coordination and case conferencing
