Work Schedule: Academic School Year 7:45am - 4:00pm

General Description:

Career Academy Middle School is seeking a passionate and dynamic Health & Movement Teacher who will also facilitate Current Events instruction. This position requires a well-rounded educator who can promote physical wellness health literacy and critical thinking through movement-based instruction and discussions on real-world topics. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong classroom management collaborative skills and a genuine interest in student growthboth physically and intellectually.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of bachelors degree in English or education
• Should hold or be able to obtain appropriate Indiana Teacher License.
• Preference will be given to candidates with a masters degree.

Primary Responsibilities

• Health & Movement Instruction (Aligned to Indiana Academic Standards for Health & Physical Education):
• Deliver engaging developmentally appropriate physical education and health lessons to grades 68.
• Promote concepts including personal fitness nutrition mental health substance abuse prevention safety and personal wellness.
• Design and implement movement-based activities that develop motor skills teamwork and lifelong physical fitness habits.
• Assess and document student progress in alignment with Indiana State Standards for Health and Physical Education.
• Maintain a safe and inclusive physical activity environment for all students.
• Current Events Instruction (Aligned to Indiana Social Studies & English/Language Arts Standards):
• Facilitate age-appropriate discussions on local national and global news fostering student understanding of civic responsibility media literacy and social awareness.
• Guide students in analyzing sources understanding bias and forming informed opinions.
• Promote respectful dialogue and debate around current social environmental and political issues.
• Encourage reading writing and critical thinking through news-based assignments and projects.
• Collaborate with grade-level and content teams to support cross-curricular learning.
• Communicate regularly with families about student progress and classroom activities.
• Maintain accurate student records and contribute to data-driven instruction.
• Participate in professional development and school-wide initiatives.
• Uphold school policies routines and a culture of high expectations and respect.

School Activities

The teacher is required to attend and/or participate in such other activities as directed by the Administrator such as: faculty meetings (before or after school hours) open houses commencement exercises chaperone student activities provide guidance for students participate on faculty committees study and help resolve school problems.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently manage time effectively and contribute meaningfully to collaborative team environments.
• Commitment to lifelong learning and growth particularly in adapting to new technologies and instructional tools.
• Must demonstrate foundational professionalism including consistent attendance punctuality adherence to school policies and procedures and strong employability skills. These are considered essential non-negotiable expectations of the role.
