You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine (UW APM) is seeking an outstanding leader to become the Medical Director of the University of Washington Center for Pain Relief (UW-CPR). The University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine has a distinguished history in Pain Medicine. The department is home to the worlds first multidisciplinary pain clinic established by pain visionary John Bonica in 1961. For over six decades the Pain Division has continued Dr. Bonicas legacy by staying on the leading edge of the diagnosis study and treatment of chronic cancer and acute pain.
The Medical Director will lead the UW Center for Pain Relief in delivering the highest quality of medical care that adheres to best available evidence-based clinical practice while striving to achieve best possible access to clinical pain care. The Medical Director will assure highest quality educational and training activities for UW medical students anesthesia residents and other relevant specialties and professions that participate in the care of patients with pain) and pain fellowship trainees. In addition the Medical Director will support and promote person-directed care by active participation in the processes that ensure the appropriateness and quality of medical and medically related care and be an active provider of direct patient pain care services. This position will be expected to support the departments commitment to multidisciplinary pain care. Functions of the position include administrative decision-making recommendation and approval of all clinic-related policies and procedures organization and coordination of physician services and those relevant services provided by other health professionals as they relate to the out-patient care of patients with pain and support of research activities. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching research and service.

Appointment Details
This is a clinical position (anesthesiology and pain medicine) with protected time for administrative duties and academic endeavors at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor without tenure due to funding and is full-time with an anticipated start date of September 2025 or soon thereafter. Salary and academic appointment at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience qualifications and academic rank. Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June) meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The base salary range for this position will be: Associate Professor $34689 - $35036 per month ($416268 - $420432 annually) or Professor $36548 - $37282 per month ($438576 - $447384 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a US Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive pay through the UWP practice plan and an administrative salary supplement for administrative service as the Medical Director. Compensation provided by the UWP practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. Candidates should have MD or DO (or foreign equivalent) and be board certified or eligible (or foreign equivalent) in anesthesiology (or other specialty board) and pain medicine. Must have a minimum of one-year ACGME pain fellowship training (or foreign equivalent). Must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Washington. To be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
