Job Description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Hardware Engineering team creates compute and storage server designs for Amazons innovative web services. The storage platform team develops and operates all the platforms for our major storage products (S3 EBS & EC2). Our designs are industry-leading in performance frugality and operational excellence and are critical to the success of the AWS business and the more than one million customers who use AWS today. Our success depends on our highly respected storage infrastructure; were handling massive scale and rapid integration of emergent technologies.

The ideal candidate for this role will be an innovative hands-on leader seasoned in building and leading software teams developing large-scale telemetry and real-time monitoring systems with demonstrated experience at building solutions using AWS public cloud services. As a Sr. SDE in this team you will be leading a team of highly motivated software developers that thrive on solving challenging problems with innovative solutions. The team couples software and firmware skill-sets with storage and scalable software engineering disciplines to solve real world data storage problems. You would lead a team building validating and operating software solutions in diverse technology domains from embedded software platforms to large-scale distributed software systems in Java C/C Python and other languages using proprietary and open source technologies and Amazon services alike. Prior experience in large-scale distributed system development and monitoring is a plus.

You will collaborate with internal and external development teams (architecture hardware validation software services). You will establish strategic vision and drive tactical execution in defining and delivering new products and services. You are highly organized data-driven have a passion for recruiting leading and developing world-class engineering talent and executing projects on defined timelines. What you will do: You will build and lead a team building large-scale monitoring and real-time telemetry systems for operating an at-scale storage platform including designing and building automation tooling and data analytics solutions. You will build and operate scalable storage solutions and associated operational infrastructure to automate monitoring and analysis services. You will work closely with other AWS software teams to tailor and operate storage solutions for the AWS environment.

About the team
Nitro SSD is an AWS strategic initiative to improve customer experience by increasing storage availability reducing SSD related operations improving device security and enabling uniform customer experience with transparent multi-sourcing of NAND. We achieve this through software and hardware design ownership while multi-sourcing NAND from memory suppliers. Nitro SSD brings differentiated features such as Torn-Write-Prevention that drive customer value reducing their infrastructure spend while improving performance for their database workloads as an example.

- 5 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5 years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5 years of leading design or architecture (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor tech lead or leading an engineering team
- Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent

- 7 years of full software development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing and operations experience
- * 3 years of demonstrated experience for development with AWS services including CloudWatch Kinesis DynamoDB
- * 3 years of experience building and operating distributed systems
- * 3 years of experience with telemetry observability and monitoring of cloud services

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
