Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exist is to perform semi-skilled operation of equipment used in the construction and maintenance of county roads drainage ditches and bridges. Major work responsibilities may include: operating various types of equipment including highway tractors rollers and backhoes; performing various maintenance and construction related duties utilizing equipment; performing basic preventative maintenance on equipment; training on additional equipment as time permits; and performing related manual work. The County Road Equipment Operator I is distinguished from the County Road Equipment Operator II in that the CREO I typically performs less skilled equipment operations than the CREO II and operates equipment that does not require a CDL. Work is ordinarily performed under the supervision of and frequently inspected by the Road Maintenance Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) months of experience in the operation of off-road or industrial use equipment.

NOTE:Qualifying education training and experience that provide therequisite knowledge skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license and insurable driving record. A CDL may be required to perform the duties of the relief Operator on vehicles requiring a Commercial Drivers License.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements to include direct sun exposure extreme heat and/or cold rain and lightning as well as exposure to ants bees insects and poisonous plants such as poison ivy and poison oak. Equipment is operated on paved surfaces as well as across rough uneven or rocky surfaces at the various work sites. Work requires some extended work hours overtime night weekend and holiday hours as well as afterhours on-call duty.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Physical ability to bend stoop walk and stand for periods of time as needed to perform manual labor duties.
