Job Summary
Position Summary:
Must be enrolled in pharmacy school with an anticipated PharmD graduation date of May 2027.
Internship will occur at Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals (Butterworth Blodgett and Helen DeVos Childrens Hospitals).
In this position the pharmacy intern will support the medication history technician team with direct patient interaction in obtaining and documenting medication history for a variety of patient populations
Internship frequency:
- Year-round staffing: two 8-hour shifts every other weekend and approximately 3 holidays per year for duration of internship
- Schoolyear staffing: one additional 4-hour weeknight shift per week during P3 year required
- Summer staffing: up to full time work completing technical or clinical activities depending upon departmental needs
- Interprets physicians orders checking for correct dose drug route rate and frequency of administration. Reviews patient profile for allergies duplication of drugs and drug interactions and accurately enters orders into computer under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Aseptically reconstitutes filters prepares and labels parenteral sterile products and chemotherapy and dispenses other medications under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Maintains documentation and record keeping.
- Participates in patient care activities such as drug use monitoring pharmacokinetics dosing service and nutritional support services.
- Provides drug information to physicians nurses and other members of the team in collaboration with a pharmacist.
- Participates in special projects such as data entry or research.
- Completes all Spectrum Health assigned competencies by assigned due dates.
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent Enrolled in accredited PharmD program required
- Previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred
- LIC-Pharmacist Intern - STATEMI State of Michigan required
