Job Description:

Reporting to the Director for Greek Life the Assistant Director for Greek Life (Interfraternity Council Advisor and Prevention Specialist) will serve as a key advocate for the fraternity and sorority community by supporting initiatives that enhance the learning experience leadership capacity and sense of belonging for members. The Assistant Director provides comprehensive and cross-functional development to students across affiliated chapters and three governing councils (Interfraternity National Pan-Hellenic and Panhellenic). The Assistant Director serves as the primary advisor to the Interfraternity Council and its 16 chapters of 2000 members and will oversee all community-wide risk reduction and prevention efforts.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE

  • Serve as an advocate for the fraternity and sorority experience with various stakeholders to include campus partners alumni families inter/national Headquarters.
  • Build capacity for students affiliated with sororities and fraternities through 1:1 student advising facilitation chapter and council coaching community programming health & safety initiatives event planning support and leadership skill development.
  • Support office operations including compliance chapter accreditation and other administrative needs.
  • Supervises the Coordinator for Greek Life programming.
  • Align all work with the divisional priorities of Quality Community and Connection with the support and guidance from the Director for Greek Life.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERSHIP

Emphasizes curriculum design and the student learning experience

A primary goal for Greek Life at LSU is to provide intentional out-of-classroom learning experiences that support the development of the community. The Assistant Director will support these efforts by standardizing the learning goals for all programs and services through curriculum and program design to meet those goals.

Cross-functional fraternity and sorority advising

Holistically supporting all members of a sorority and fraternity community requires an unconventional approach to Greek Life work. The Assistant Director has the opportunity to implement strategies that are high impact relevant moves the entire community forward and that cuts across any singular council by utilizing a cross-functional approach to serving students and allowing advisement across all councils and chapters rather than a singular council focus.

Cultivate a collaborative health and safety model

Fostering a safe and healthy sorority and fraternity community is difficult and requires strategic and coordinated effortsit can be done. At this critical juncture for the LSU sorority and fraternity community the elimination of hazing and other high-risk behaviors is top priority. Simultaneously there is an opportunity to build a culture of care and concern by creating a model of education and peer accountability that draws from research and public health strategies.

ABOUT THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS PRIORITIES

Three priorities guide our work in the Division of Student Affairs. Foremost we maintain a commitment to quality which is rooted in the belief that LSU students deserve our best effort. Every interaction we have with students should communicate care relevance polish and attention to detail. We work to ensure every space place and staff-to-student interaction communicates a sense of home to students. Finally we design programs services events and experiences with everyone in mind.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Student Support Oversight and Supervision (50%): Coaches and builds the capacity of student leaders and Greek Life chapters in operations campus collaboration policy education and fraternity and sorority housing support. Provides frontline advocacy that aligns with divisional priorities and supports student success. Translates departmental goals to students through oversight of fraternal programs services events and experiences. Serves as the liaison between students and departmental and divisional leadership. Supervises the Coordinator for Greek Life programming as well as the Greek Life Graduate Assistant(s).

Program Oversight (20%): Plans designs and executes all Greek Life prevention efforts including the development of a research-based collaborative and comprehensive prevention plan for the community. Assist the Director in translation and execution of the strategy for the positions and areas oversight.

Administrative and Program Support (20%): Provides support for the day-to-day operation of Greek Life through administrative management departmental expenditures oversight of student organization compliance items and stakeholder communication. Coordinates logistics expenditures and operations for Greek Life programs events experiences and services. Responsible for ongoing curriculum design facilitation and assessment of annual Greek Life programs.

Quality Control (5%): Ensures every aspect of programs administrative and financial tasks communication and design exudes a high degree of quality by monitoring data details and systems for all outputs. Embraces and executes the marginal gains approach; seeking to increase the level of all services events programs and experiences in Greek Life for continuous improvements every academic year.

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Greek Life (5%): This includes but is not limited to efforts that support broad divisional and institutional goals including at least 40 hours per year spent helping divisional initiatives such as Move-in Day Welcome Week Family Weekend Career Expo and Disability Services Finals Testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Three years experience working in a related field.
  • LSU values skills experience and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply a degree is not required as long as the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Student Affairs/Higher Education or a related field and at least 3 years of experience working in a related field OR Bachelors degree and at least five years of experience working in a related field.
  • Experience working with a large residential sorority and fraternity community.
  • Demonstrated experience with risk reduction and prevention work.
  • Experience working at an inter/national headquarters.
  • Demonstrated curriculum/learning design experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/EXPECTATIONS

Ability and willingness to work some evening and weekend hours.

As with all LSU employees due to this position title and/or responsibilities this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional behavioral or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency.
