Job Description

Employment Type: Full Time 35 hours per week

Duration: Up until 30 June 2026.

Remuneration: Academic Level C $% Super Annual Leave Loading

Location: Kensington Sydney New South Wales

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must hold unrestricted work rights to be considered for this position.

Why Your Role Matters:

The Senior Research Fellow (Level C) is expected to make independent and original contributions to their area of research expertise and to the broader research environment within their organizational unit or interdisciplinary team. Academics at this level are also expected to demonstrate research leadership and actively contribute to advancing their field.

In this role you will be a key member of a collaborative and high-performing research team contributing to the design implementation and completion of a range of impactful epidemiological and clinical research projects aimed at improving health outcomes for Indigenous Australians. The position will have a particular focus on evaluation and policy development to support meaningful evidence-based improvements in Indigenous health.

The role of Senior Research Fellow reports to the Professor and has no direct reports.

Skills and Experience:

  • A PhD in related discipline and/or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous peoples communities and organisations in a research context with evidence of respectful engagement and beneficial outcomes.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Indigenous research methodologies ethical frameworks and protocols for engaging with Indigenous communities.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments in Indigenous research.
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership in Indigenous contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships particularly with Indigenous colleagues and communities.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills including cultural competency and sensitivity.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSWs aims objectives and values in action together with relevant policies and guidelines including Indigenous strategy and reconciliation action plans.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
