Senior Learning Skills Advisor

Contract: Full-time ongoing position

Location: Melbourne Docklands

Salary Level: Professional Level 6 $109871 to $126350 plus 17% super and great benefits!

About your next role

As a Senior Learning Skills Advisor you will provide specialist and technical learning skills support services that promote academic achievement for our students across all Monash College programs. You will influence the learning outcomes and success through providing hands on and proactive solutions and strategies that address the unique needs of a broad range of international students.

Using your recent and relevant experience you will design and implement education programs and resources (digital and print) that address identified learning support needs of students you will lead individual and group learning sessions on key academic skills as well as providing provide mentorship in specific situations and you will act as a central point of contact and trusted advisor on learning support that is congruent with best practice and contemporary teaching and learning practices.

You will collaborate with and develop effective stakeholder relationships across our organisation you will develop sustainable and strategically important programs that contribute to student success and you will use data and evidence to inform your approach to designing and delivering interventions that meet students learning needs.

As a specialist expert in education this role lends towards someone who gains satisfaction from influencing the success of others is able to apply an analytical and problem solving approach to a variety of situations and is a strong team contributor who is energised by interacting with others.

A typical day in this position might involve:

  • connecting with students and teachers on specific academic development strategies to meet immediate needs that allow for program completion
  • running workshops to identify solutions and strategies innovation in learning products or upskilling on skills needed to transition to university
  • identifying opportunities to develop new initiatives based on current student performance trends and transition data
  • working with your immediate team on opportunities to modernise team operating practices
  • working one on one with a teacher who has an at risk but highly capable student who is new to Australia

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A degree or postgraduate qualification in Education (or similar) and experience in a tertiary education environment. Additional qualifications relevant to International Education such as a recognised qualification in TESOL are advantageous.
  • Significant experience working in an education environment identifying and applying approaches to teaching and learning that suit the needs of students in a transition environment. You will be able to develop strategies and then translate them to tactical solutions that provide a positive impact to learners and valued support for teachers.
  • An understanding of what motivates students and the range of factors that impact on academic backgrounds.
  • Prior experience working with students from different cultural backgrounds strong communication and interpersonal skills and will be able to confidently provide tailored advice to students.
  • Proven experience developing peer based learning programs with an understanding of English and Maths requirements for Tertiary study across a broad range of disciplines and able to use technology and data to influence problem solving.
