Job Description

Introduction

The Australian Refugee Association Inc. (ARA) is a community-based organisation providing settlement migration and other forms of assistance to refugees migrants and other people of concern.

As a member of our team you will be supporting new arrivals in South Australia to achieve their social economic cultural and community participation goals. You will be making a difference in the lives of individuals and families as they re-establish themselves in a new home.



Description

ARAs Outreach Programs engage with migrant and CALD communities to address their settlement needs with a focus on improving social participation economic wellbeing independence personal wellbeing and community connectedness. Outreach Programs include community education social and employment support programs as well as programs to engage with youth such as after school homework clubs weekly hangout and school holiday activities.

The Volunteer Project Officer plays a vital role in promoting the benefits of volunteering for building skills growing capacity and gaining experience all while making a valuable contribution to the wider community. This position involves a combination of volunteer and community engagement connecting individuals with volunteering opportunities in community organisations and helping coordinate workshops and information sessions.

The main responsibilities and tasks for this role include:

  • Support individuals to obtain volunteer work
  • Promote the benefits of volunteering and how ARA can assist people to obtain volunteer work by assisting to deliver short workshops or group activities
  • Maintain networks with community organisations offering volunteering
  • Assist the Volunteer Coordinator to deliver workshops with Volunteer SA and ARA staff on supporting people to obtain volunteer work
  • Collect feedback from participant who obtain volunteer roles
  • Attend meetings with other service providers as required
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with relevant agencies service providers and refugee and migrant communities.
  • Assist the Team Leader and Volunteer Coordinator to prepare reports in accordance with specified timeframes project targets and expected project outcomes.

ARA is seeking applications from people with a passion to support Volunteer Coordinator Jess in the delivery of ARAs volunteer support project with Volunteering SA/NT. This one day a week position is currently only available to ARA staff or volunteers who would like a paid days work per week in support of this program through to June 2026.

Skills And Experiences

Required Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal communication and active listening skills with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of people.
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness especially regarding refugee communities.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to apply a strength-based and trauma informed approach to your work.

Required experience:

  • Experience working with people from a refugees or CALD background
  • Experience in recording client case notes.
