TheDepartment of Artat St. Francis Xavier University invites applications for an Art Lab Instructor/ Studio Technician on a two-year probationary 9-month contract to begin August 11 2025 (end date of May 9th). This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
Ideally candidates for this position will have completed a B.F.A and/or an M.F.A or a combination of equivalent education skill and experience and have sound communication and organizational skills be a well-rounded teacher and have some technical skills pertaining to art equipment.
The successful candidate will be tasked with maintaining our Studio Art classrooms so as to facilitate the work of Studio Art instructors: providing safe supervised access for students outside of (and in some cases assisting during) class times; maintaining the physical studio classrooms and their equipment; and managing art supplies. The successful candidate will also be assigned to teach Material Workshop lab sections for a new first-year course on visual and material literacy taught primarily by Art and Material Historians. Candidates must be available for in-person teaching and must be willing to work collaboratively with the Studio Art and Art and Material History instructors and faculty.
About the Art Department
The StFX Art Department at present offers a Minor in Studio Art and a Minor in Art History as well as elective courses that attract students from all disciplines across campus (approximately 900 students per year). The Department has four art studios; we offer a wide array of studio courses in drawing painting printmaking textiles stained glass ceramics filmmaking and digital photography. Equipment ranges from easels to printing presses glass grinders fume hoods a clay slab roller and a kiln.
