DIRECTOR OF HARM REDUCTION

ABOUT SISTERREACH:
SisterReach founded in October 2011 is a Memphis TN-based grassroots 501(c)(3) non-profit organization supporting the reproductive autonomy of Black women women and girls of color poor and rural women LGBTQIA and gender expansive people and their families through the framework of Reproductive and Sexual Justice. Our mission is to empower our base to lead healthy lives raise healthy families and live in healthy communities.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Director of Harm Reduction is a leadership role responsible for overseeing harm reduction programming team development and community engagement initiatives to support the organizations mission. Reporting to the Director of Programs & Leadership Development and working strategically with the Director of Research & Development and the Director of Marketing & Communications this position oversees harm reduction services goals of the department and ensures program alignment with organizational goals.

The Director of Harm Reduction works collaboratively with the Director of Policy & Advocacy on harm reduction legislation at local state and federal levels and with the Director of Marketing & Communications to inform relevant campaigns initiatives and the creation of marketing and educational collateral. This position supervises a diverse team of staff including managers specialists and assistants as well as volunteers and interns assigned to the department.

The ideal candidate will possess strong management and leadership skills with expertise in team development cultural humility task and time management and harm reduction best practices.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Management & Supervision
  • Provides strategic oversight for all harm reduction programs and initiatives ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Oversees the creation and implementation of policies and procedures for harm reduction programs.
  • Oversees the delivery of harm reduction services including the CareOnHand programs HIV/PrEP-PEP-DoxyPEP outreach Pleasure Pak Program YouMeHIV and Pearls Pantry initiatives.
  • Ensures timely and accurate reporting on program deliverables data budgets and outcomes.
  • Supports logistics for Pearls Pantry and mobile programming including scheduling inventory management and staffing.
  • Supervises and manages direct reports including:
    • Program Coordinator - Pearls Pantry
    • Pearls Pantry Support Assistants I & II
    • Pearls Pantry Mobile Program Coordinator
    • Pearls Pantry Mobile Drivers I II and Alternate
    • Harm Reduction Specialist I - Outreach/Tabling/PP Mobile
    • Harm Reduction Specialist II - HIV/PrEP-PEP-DoxyPEP/SSP
    • Harm Reduction Support Assistant/PP Mobile
  • Manages and coordinates the efforts of volunteers and interns assigned to the harm reduction department.
  • Ensures harm reduction programs are culturally responsive inclusive and effective in serving marginalized communities.
  • Fosters an inclusive and collaborative team culture rooted in equity and cultural humility.
  • Provides mentorship leadership development and professional growth opportunities for harm reduction staff.
  • Conducts regular performance evaluations and supports staff in achieving their professional goals.
  • Supervises program staff interns and/or volunteers.

Administrative Management & Support
  • Actively participates in individual weekly check-in meetings organizational staff meetings leadership meetings and relevant departmental discussions.
  • Engages in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and align with organizational goals.
  • Offers coordination supports and participates in the organizations special events campaigns and initiatives.
  • Develops manages and monitors program budgets data ensuring alignment with organizational financial goals.
  • Manages departmental workflows ensuring timely completion of tasks and deliverables.
Policy
  • Collaborates with the Director of Policy & Advocacy to develop and advocate for harm reduction legislation at local state and federal levels.
  • Stays informed of legislative changes and trends in harm reduction policy to ensure programmatic alignment with advocacy priorities.
  • Supports the development of policy briefs testimony and advocacy strategies related to harm reduction.

Marketing and Communications
  • Collaborates with the Director of Marketing & Communications to inform and develop campaigns initiatives and messaging related to harm reduction programs.
  • Provides input on the creation of marketing and educational materials that promote harm reduction services and engage the community.
  • Collaborates on outreach strategies to increase program visibility and community engagement.
Research and Evaluation
  • Collaborates with the Director of Research & Development to design and implement evaluation frameworks for harm reduction programs.
  • Responsible for timely submission of all data and evaluations produced from Harm Reduction Programming campaigns and initiatives.

Community Engagement and Advocacy
  • Represents the organization in local state and national harm reduction coalitions meetings and events.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with community stakeholders partners and funders to strengthen harm reduction services.
  • Advocates for harm reduction policies and practices that align with the organizations mission and values.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong leadership and management skills with experience supervising diverse teams.
  • Exceptional organizational and task management abilities with the capacity to oversee multiple programs simultaneously.
  • Expertise in harm reduction strategies and approaches particularly in marginalized communities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with staff volunteers and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in data collection and reporting to support program evaluation and continuous improvement.
  • Commitment to equity inclusion and cultural humility.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors degree in public health social work nonprofit management or a related field (required). Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in harm reduction public health or a related field with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience managing staff volunteers and interns in a nonprofit or community-based setting.
  • Familiarity with harm reduction programming including syringe service programs HIV prevention and community outreach.
  • Knowledge of reproductive and sexual justice or social justice work is highly desirable.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are a plus.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
  • Salary Range: $75000 - $90000 annually based on experience qualifications and organizational budget.
